Katharine Gerard, who lost her son to AIDS 20 years ago, pays a surprise visit to the NY apartment of Cal, her late son's ex-partner. Cal, now married to another man, Will, has a young son named Bud. Challenged to face how society has changed around her—without her—she is finally able to see the rich life her son might have led.
