The Royale
TheatreSquared Artistic Director Robert Ford, Executive Director Martin Miller, and Director of New Play Development Dexter J. Singleton announced the lineup of new plays for the 15th annual Arkansas New Play Festival (ANPF).
Tony nominee and MacArthur 'Genius' grant winner Dominique Morisseau's critically acclaimed play, Detroit '67, begins October 12 at TheatreSquared (477 W. Spring St., Fayetteville) and runs through November 6.
The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, a hilarious, incisive satire that takes on the world of professional wrestling—while, in the process, powerbombing racism, xenophobia, and the American appetite for spectacle—opens at TheatreSquared on April 13 and will run through May 8.
TheatreSquared's season continues with the New York Times Critics' Pick, The Royale by Marco Ramirez (Orange Is the New Black, Sons of Anarchy). This tightly constructed, visceral drama is inspired by the real-world boxer Jack Johnson who a?" as a black man at the height of the Jim Crow era a?" became the heavyweight champion of the world. Told in a boxing ring over six rounds, The Royale is an electrifying adrenaline rush that shows the human cost of making history.
