The Belle of Amherst, which premiered on Broadway in 1976, uses Dickinsons diaries, letters and poetry to tell the intriguing personal story of the reclusive poet. Sinda Nichols plays Emily in this poignant one-woman performance, which is set in the parlor of Dickinsons Amherst, MA, home where she lived her entire life and where the majority of her work was composed. The play will be available on demand from April 15-19. Much like Dickinsons poetry itself, The Belle of Amherst is a love affair with language and a celebration of all that is beautiful and poignant in life. The play reveals the pain and joy of Dickinsons secluded life, details her few significant relationships and celebrates her enormous talent, using the dramatic quality of the artists own words.
