A story of draught-stricken times when the draught is also a metaphor for the loss of trust and hope in life. Somewhere along the Haryana-Rajasthan border, Chaudhari Deen Dayal’s family has seen happier times. Along with the draught in the land has entered pessimism in the life of his daughter Nandini (Nandu) who is becoming overage for marriage. Because of her dark skin and sometimes for her sheer intelligence, Nandu has been rejected so many times for marriage that now she denies her dreams and is convinced nothing can elevate her drab future………
Her brother Mahipat is a very practical man, who has no dreams or hopes and is constantly at loggerheads with the her younger brother who is a dreamer. As Chaudhari Deen Dayal struggles to keep his family and land together, in comes a stranger, Bajrangali…..A man who claims to sell Rain!

While Chaudhari Deen Dayal is ready to play this game of chance Nandu and Mahipat are convinced that the man is a criminal and fraudster whom the police inspector, Samar Singh is looking for.

Is it really possible to make things happen with the power of faith?, as disbelief and doubts are pushed out, can the past and unhappiness be overcome by just believing in happiness.
In these times of draught, unemployment, pessimism, distrust and even……boredom, is Bajrangali a magician, a fraud or a miracle man?
Is he God?
Why is he interfering in the emotions of this household? And Does he bring Rain………….?
Story of dreams and belief……….and a trust in existence…
Rang Bajrang is an adaptation of Richard Nash’s ‘Rainmaker’.

About the Group:
Ank repertory in its 36th year is about 40 strong and is headed by Mr.Dinesh Thakur who himself has completed 48 years in theatre.

For Ank, theatre is not just a source of entertainment, it also serves to keep history alive, to propagate and emphasise those cultural values and traditions which set us apart and identify us as Indians in the eyes of the rest of the world and most importantly to raise some questions, tickle some issues – almost always tongue-in-cheek. Within this larger framework, Ank believes that it is theatre which provides respite and rejuvenation to any society. For Ank therefore, theatre is serious and responsible work and quality the cornerstone of its belief.

Ank has always believed in quality and finesse with a larger purpose. It has always been our endeavour to put forward a thought, a message which appeals to our purer sentiment and instincts, bringing out the best in us, thus contributing in evolving better individuals in a more sensitized society.

An important aspect that sets Ank apart from many of its theatre contemporaries is the emphasis here on the actor and his abilities. All aspects of the physical body are to be explored as instruments and extensions of expression. In these days, when colour and form are taking a precedence over realism on stage, theatre remains for us the Actor’s medium. This is amply evident in our latest production of HUMDUM where a simple story becomes a humorous journey transcending old age & suffering.

Having come into being in 1976 and picked up momentum in 1978 with the emergence of Prithvi theatre and with the unforgettable encouragement from the Late Jennifer Kapoor and Shri Shashi Kapoor, Ank today has one of the largest bodies of work in Hindi with approximately 7000 shows of 77 plays all over the country and abroad.
