I caught QTP’s penultimate production of their veteran play, Project S.T.R.I.P. starring Dilnaz Irani, Harssh Singh, Keith Antony Sequeira, Neil Bhoopalam and Shruti Sridharan, on an Easter weekend at the Prithvi Theatre of Mumbai, India.
This edition of Prithvi's theatre festival welcomed Adishakti's long-running play Bhoomi. The play is directed by Vinay Kumar, who also adapted the play from Sara Joseph's Malayalam play titled Bhoomirakshasam. The theatre troop arrived from Auroville, and a brief glimpse at their repertoire reveals that they have always taken a keen interest in revisiting old Indian folktales and spinning them with bewildering modern twists. From Bali, Brhannalla, and Bheema to Ganpati - their plays have mastered the pastiche - bringing together the old and the new in entertaining ways. It is a loose adaptation of Bhoomirakshasam, a stalwart in the women's theatre movement of Kerala. For its form, the play draws from traditional art forms like therekoothu and yaskshagana to tell the story of violence against women.
A Two- Day led by Playwright, Screenwriter, Film-Maker and Stage Director Mahesh Dattani, presented by Royal Opera House, Mumbai and Avid Learning.

The play is directed by KK Raina.
It's that time of year when we are going insane prepping for Prithvi's biggest and most celebrated annual event - PRITHVI FESTIVAL from 1st Nov to 11th Nov 2019 at Prithvi Theatre, Royal Opera House and G5A - Powered by Bank Of Baroda.
The one act play that premiered in Broadway is written by Ira Lewis
A visibly emotional Shah, on the occasion of customary lighting the lamp ceremony was also seen along with other theatre stalwarts such as Akash Khurana, Meera Khurana, Benjamin Gilani, Kunal Kapoor, Jairaj Patil, and Manhar Gadhia.
40 years and 42 productions later Motley productions showcases some of the finest in Indian theatre
The idea of Motley was born in a small coffee house in Lucknow in 1978 when Naseeruddin Shah & Benjamin Gilani decided to produce plays that they were curious about. They decided to go with Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, though they had no clue as to how to go about it. Godot was in rehearsal for nearly a year and finally opened on July 29th at the newly inaugurated Prithvi Theatre, under the banner of Majma, Om Puri's fledgling company. This was because we hadn't yet found a name for the group but by the next show we had decided on MOTLEY; only thing is that the next show was performed only a year and four months later!
Lovers of period music have another surprise in store as Begum Akhtar's songs fill the background with a lilting melody while recreating the mood of the times gone by.
