THE FAIRYTALE LIVES OF RUSSIAN GIRLS

MASHA, 19-year-old Russian woman. Her boyfriend Misha turned into a bear and is keeping her like a prisoner.

ANNIE, 20-year-old American woman. Eager, brave, and curious. She comes to Russia to improve her Russian and stays with her “aunty” Yaroslava.

OLGA/PASSPORT CONTROL OFFICER/PROFESSOR/VALENTINA. 40s female. Olga is Annie’s Russian mother. Valentina is the tsar’s wife.

YAROSLAVA/BABA YAGA, middle-aged female. Annie’s “aunty,” but not related to her. Just like the fairy tale character Baba Yaga, she ages every time she is asked a question.

KATYA, 19-year-old Russian woman. The tsar’s mistress and also in love with the tsar’s daughter, also named Katya.

OTHER KATYA/NASTYA. Other Katya is the tsar’s daughter. She is like Katya’s twin soul, 19 year-old, very similar in character and disposition. Nastya is a 20 year-old prostitute and a friend of Masha’s.

LAZARE ALBANS, 72 year-old white male. A wealthy merchant who just choked on a fish bone and died.

BEARTRICE ALBANS, 50 year-old African-American female. Lazare’s mistress. Mother of Agnes, Maude Lynn, and Odette. Strong willed and strict. She has a history with her past lovers’ mysterious deaths.

AGNES ALBANS, 29 year-old African-American female with butter-colored skin. First daughter of Beartrice. In love with a wealthy white man, Ramon Le Pip.

MAUDE LYNN ALBANS, African-American female with white skin in her mid-twenties. Second daughter of Beartrice. Pious and righteous.

ODETTE ALBANS, 20 year-old African-American female with brown skin. Third daughter of Beartrice.

MAKEDA, 40 year-old African-American female. Servant to Lazare and Beartrice.

LA VEUVE/MARIE JOSEPHINE, African-American females. La Veuve is a 45 year-old free woman of color and friends with Makeda. Marie Josephine (48 years old) is Beartrice’s sister and is slightly insane and also prophetic.
