BREAKDOWN
JO-JO - 25 to 40 years old, Black/African American female. Can be drag queen. Sexy, street-smart, tough, and fearless, she is the only inmate in the cellblock that can give Gloria a run for her money.
ADA - 25 to 40 years old, all ethnicities female. Can be drag queen A pyromaniac, narcoleptic mad woman with sudden bursts of wisdom and clarity. Brilliant actress and off-the-wall comedienne needed.
GUADALUPE - 25 to 40 years old, Hispanic female. Can be drag queen. “Charo behind bars”. Hilarious, over-the-top, vivacious, long-suffering Latina with a penchant for melodrama.
MARY ELEANOR - 25 to 30 years old, all ethnicities female. Sweet, innocent young girl, new to the prison system, but ultimately corrupted and transformed into a hardened criminal. Must have tremendous range and vulnerability, as well as comedic timing. Ultimately she is the “heart” of the play.
THE MAN - 20 to 35 years old, Caucasian male. Hunky and handsome with strong comic timing. Plays multiple roles throughout the play, one of which includes nudity. Roles include: prison guard, Paul (Mary’s husband), a psychiatrist, and a pimp. Versatility needed.
The roles of The Matron, Louise, Gloria, Blanche, Cheri, and Granny have been cast.
