ALL ACTORS ARE SIGNED AS ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGERS (ASMs) and will be required, as such, to lift scenery and sound equipment during daily load-in and load outs (up to 60 lbs). All actors participate in assembling and disassembling the set at each venue and school at which they perform. This is a touring production. The company travels by car & van to theaters and schools. NYC performers encouraged to submit. Equity’s contracts prohibit discrimination. SEEKING

Equity actors for a roles in WARRIORS DON'T CRY(Touring TYA Solo Show).

YA GIRL/MELBA/EMCEE/ASM - 18+ to play 15-year-old Black woman and activist (think Emma Gonzalez, Jasilyn Charger or Hebh Jamal) and 75-year-old activist Melba Pattillo Beals. Both quick witted, stubborn women, one is at the beginning of her lifelong struggle to create a better future, the other is reflecting back on a journey not yet complete. Both meet at a crisis point of exhaustion and disillusionment and must decide if they will continue the fight. Performers with strong singing voices, exceptional physical storytelling skills, excellent facility with poetic language and adeptness with audience participation are encouraged to submit.

Doubles as Emcee. This is a solo performance.

This show travels with two actors (who share the role and trade off performances), a stage manager, and a production assistant. WARRIORS DON’T CRY is a solo production inspired by the memoir, WARRIORS DON’T CRY by Melba Pattillo.
