BREAKDOWN

Adult Roles

Mary (Mom) - (Late 20’s, early 30’s. Mezzo pop voice) Molly’s mom. Determined. Capable. Trying to protect her daughter from the disappointment of her Daddy being gone for Christmas through sheer force of “scheduling” (i.e. busy means happy). She is on the verge of running out of gas, but fighting through it.

Daddy- (Late 20’s, early 30’s. Pop tenor voice with strong falsetto - riff to D5) Molly’s father. A Sergeant First Class in the US Army currently deployed overseas. Attentive, gentle and kind with his daughter. His daughter’s hero.

Santa Claus- (should look 50’s- 70’s) Traditional “Coca-Cola ad” Santa Claus. Wise and warm with a wry humor. Melodic speaking voice. He owes Mary a favor from a “delivery mistake” that happened on Christmas several years ago when she was a little girl.

Uptown Santa- (30’s+, Soloist with an R&B/Pop Tenor voice.) A “Santa’s helper” who is a fixture in Manhattan; ringing his bell and collected money for the needy at Christmas while singing on street corners. Knows Santa personally. Good dancer.

Street Workers – (20’s-40’s) Four New York street workers who occasionally break out in song together just for the fun of it, when they aren’t cutting jokes, or putting out orange caution cones. Great comic timing, strong singers that are comfortable singing tight harmonies.

Scout Leader -The gung-ho leader of Molly’s “Strawberry Scouts” troop. Brainy. Takes the scouting business very seriously, but has a geeky sense of humor that sometimes misses the mark. Strong Actor.

Chestnut- (Soloist Baritone with a G) The “work name” of Molly’s cousin, Jeremy, who is employed at Santa Land in Macy’s department store as an Elf. Cheery, but often unsure of himself. Wants to be a stand up comic, but can’t tell a joke to save his life. Strong featured dancer (especially tap).

Aunt Wanda- Mary’s Aunt who opens her home up to Mary and Molly for the holidays.

Tinsel- Neurotic Santa Land employee working as an Elf. Not good at adapting to stress. Featured Dancer (Male)

Sugar Plum - Sarcastic workmate to CHESTNUT in Santaland. Featured Dancer (Female)
