SEEKING

Equity actors for various roles. This is a co-production with the Shakespeare Theatre of DC. Rehearsals/Performances will begin at TFANA and then move to DC.

Theatre for a New Audience is looking for an SM and ASM for this production. See separate notice on casting call for submission info.

PREPARATION

Actors should prepare a monologue from a play by Shakespeare of their own choosing. Either comedic or dramatic. It is important that we hear the actor's skill with this language specifically. Bring picture and resume.

BREAKDOWN

Kathryn Hunter is playing the role of Timon.

Seeking:


1. APEMANTUS – any ethnicity and gender identity, mid 30s – 60. Cynical, skeptical, independent, astute, unbothered and unflappable.

2. ALCIBIADES – any ethnicity and gender identity, mid 20s – mid 30s Revolutionary leading a massive city-wide rebellion, fearless, uncompromising, fierce, obstinate. An ally, an activist. (NB prominent in the story, but not a huge part) (can see any gender)

3. SEMPRONIUS - Any ethnicity, male, 40s – 60. Esteemed, privileged, posh, elite, a little flamboyant - high society. Old enough to have a marriable daughter.

4. LUCIA – Any ethnicity, female, mid 30s – 60. Posh, calculating, manipulative with a veneer of sympathy and friendship. Selfish, self-serving, uncompromising, sycophantic.

5. LUCULLUS - Any ethnicity, male, mid 30s - mid 40s. Delivering class and status. Business minded, banker/fintech at partner level from his 30s. Industrially progressive, personally & politically conservative/republican. Trust fund, ivy league, cookie cutter model of success.

6. FLAVIUS – Any ethnicity, male, late 50s – 70s. Oldest serving member of staff in Timon’s house, the ‘old retainer’ - her longstanding/long suffering accountant. Kind, extremely loyal, needs to hugely evoke the audience’s sympathy, probably eldest member of company.

7. FLAMINIA - Any ethnicity, female identified or gender non-conforming, 20s – 40s. Confident, loyal, smart and accomplished within the model of house manager / head of the household staff. Neat, pulled together.

8. LUCILIUS – Any ethnicity, male identified or gender non-conforming, 20s. Feisty, enterprising, hard-working. Is proving himself to be reliable and loyal.

9. POET, Caphis, Rebel, Thief 1 – Any ethnicity, male identified or gender non-conforming, 20s-40. Arrogant, privileged, pretentious, narcissistic.

10. PAINTER, Creditor 2, Servant 3, Rebel, Thief 2 – Any ethnicity, male identified or gender non conforming, 20s-40. Artistic, earnest, enthusiastic, lives in his own world unaffected by the realities around him.

11. MERCHANT, VENTIDIUS, DEMETRIUS, Servant 1, Rebel, Thief 3 – Any ethnicity, male, 30s-50. Alpha, capable of running a bank (Demetrius), being imprisoned for violence (Ventidius) and being an entrepreneurial businessman (Merchant)

12. ACTOR 4 (F) - JEWELLER, SINGER, Creditor 1, Servant 2, TIMANDRA – Any ethnicity, female identified or gender non-conforming, 20s -50s. A major singer. Rebellious, confident, confrontational (Timandra), opportunistic, alert, enterprising (JEWELLER)
