Seeking (all roles are available unless otherwise specified):

Kipps:

30s. The “Actor” hired by Kipps to portray him is bold, self-assured, and skillful at his craft. While being witty and charming, he tends to come off as a little arrogant and self-indulgent. The Arthur that he portrays in the story is younger, a strapping married man, a lawyer, who is smart, stubborn and strong-willed. Even though he sees the ghost and the fear in town, he is persistent and refuses to quit until the job is done. As the play goes on he is slowly broken down by the spectre, which tears away at him until he has nothing left.

The Woman in Black:

20s-30s. The haunting spectre of Jennet Humfrye. In life, Humfrye was obsessed and violently possessive of her child, threatening anyone who attempted to come between them. After the accidental death of her child, she went mad, with an all-consuming hatred and a desire for vengeance that slowly ate away at her until she succumbed to a miserable death. She has returned for revenge, spiteful and malevolent, bringing death wherever she roams.

Actor:

CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. Man, 50s-60s. Arthur Kipps is a timid and insecure man, broken by the loss of his wife and child he has never recovered. Haunted by their death and barely hanging on he has hired a young actor to help him exorcise some of his demons. As he re-enacts his life he portrays several characters in his own story. Sam Daily is the most helpful character, talkative, honest, and open. Daily is very hospitable, and practical in his attempts to help Kipps with his work. Jerome is a lawyer focused on business to the point of being curt. He wastes few words, and lives in constant terror of the woman in black. While he takes on several characters there is always a sense of fear and haunting that runs through him.
