THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG
No roles will be understudied.
ANNIE. (Female Identifying, 20s-30s, Any Ethnicity) She is the company’s stage manager. She’s initially terrified by the idea of acting, but when fate thrusts her into the leading role, she gradually learns to love it. Initially shy and terrified of having to step out on stage, by the end of the play she is a force to be reckoned with! This is a physically demanding role. Actor should have stage combat experience. Stunts and fall training a plus.
TREVOR. (Male Identifying, 30s-40s, Any Ethnicity) He is the play’s lighting and sound operator. He simply wants to get on with the show. He probably volunteered for this assignment because he lost a bet with a friend. He doesn’t understand actors. He doesn’t know the performance “rules” so is easily
distracted and does many things he shouldn’t, including talking to the audience. When things go really sideways, he is forced to act in the play. He probably has a Harley-Davidson parked in the alley near the stage door and pointed towards the nearest bar. Some stage combat experience preferred, but not necessary.
[MAX/CECIL HAVERSHAM/ARTHUR] (Male Identifying, 20s-30s, Any Ethnicity) He has never been onstage before. For this show, he learned his lines perfectly and is prepared to do exactly what he’s been told to do. The problem is he has zero connection with any of the actors on stage but is very aware of the presence of the audience. When he gets a laugh, he is delighted and regularly breaks the fourth wall to engage with the crowd. He is a little kid in a candy shop, having the time of his life! * This is a physically demanding role. Stage combat experience, stunts and fall training a plus.
