Seeking
Singer/Actors who move well for “The MeshugaNutcracker!”, an original musical comedy, performing at Marines Memorial Theatre and a San Jose theatre to be announced throughout December 2014. See breakdown for details.

Breakdown

“The MeshugaNutcracker!” is a full-length musical comedy that features the wonderfully silly sensibilities of the folklore of Chelm (the fictional town of fools) underscored by an invigorating, Klezmer-ized orchestration of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, now with original lyrics that celebrate Chanukah. Judah Maccabee’s triumphant saga, medieval fables, and accounts of perseverance during the Holocaust emerge with a genuine sense of wonder as the Chelmniks tell eight stories that pay tribute to the holiday. Add in dancing dreidels, singing sufganiot (jelly doughnuts), and audience participation and you have the perfect recipe, (not unlike the one for your Bubbe’s latkes!), for a perfect holiday gathering. Some might call it crazy...we call it, “The MeshugaNutcracker!”


Role: “Velvel”, the town’s precocious pre-teen. Tenor; character actor capable of broad physical comedy; read music a plus; knowledge of Jewish sensibilities and humor a plus. Age 25+ but must read as youthful.

Role: “Motke”, the town’s rabbi. Tenor; character actor capable of broad physical comedy; read music a plus; knowledge of Jewish sensibilities and humor a plus. Age 25+ but must read as youthful.

None of the roles will be understudied.
