Rehearsals will begin the week of May 6. All rehearsals will be in person, on weekday evenings and weekend afternoons. Dates and location(s) tba.

Performances will take place at the Bernie Wohl Center at Goddard Riverside Community Center, 647 Columbus Ave. (bet. 91st and 92nd Sts.), NYC.
An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

CASTING NOTE: It is the mission of Out of the Box to cast actors outside the restrictions of age, primarily over the age of 50 when possible. Out of the Box Theatre Company embraces diversity and nontraditional casting. Actors of color are encouraged to audition for all roles. Casting by the Director will be color blind. Looking for actors who understand the style of 1920s-style New York “Damon Runyon-esque” characters with great comedic sense.
PETER JONES: described as a boy of 21 or so, so he exudes an air of innocence, likable, simple, naive.
JOE LEHMAN: driven, energetic would-be Broadway producer, fast talking, gruff, cigar chomping. JACK McCLURE: Lehman’s partner, only a little less brash.
BERNIE SAMPSON: know-it-all phony would-be Broadway sophisticate.
OSCAR FRITCHIE/HOTEL WAITER: Fritchie is an affable, naive hotel manager who is enamored by the theatre. Waiter is and opinionated, wise-cracking hotel waiter.
CECIL BENHAM/A.J.PATTERSON: Benham is a British theatre director, offended by the manner of the coarse Broadway types. Patterson is a matter-of fact-lawyer, formidable, no nonsense.
FANNY LEHMAN: Joe’s wise-cracking wife, former burlesque/vaudeville performer. JANE WESTON: becomes Peter’s romantic interest, should project youthful spirit, honest & sincere.
MARY MARTIN: slightly over-the-hill Broadway actress, self-important. NOTE: We will change the name of this character—the play was written before the real Mary Martin appeared on the scene.
PEGGY MARLOWE: wise-cracking chorus girl.
KITTY HUMPHREYS: attractive, flirtatious switchboard operator
