CONTRACT

SPT SPT level 7; $490/week AEA

SEEKING

All roles are open. Actors must be able to have great acting, vocal and movement abilities. Ensemble actors will understudy lead roles.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a 32 bars of a song either from the show or in the style of the show. Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together. Accompanist provided. Dance Callbacks are after the call. For the callbacks, Women, please have character shoes shoes.

BREAKDOWN

Deloris Van Cartier:
African-American Female, 25-40. A disco diva wannabe with a dream of Donna Summer-esque glory. Mouthy, ballsy, brassy and quick on the quip. She has no faith in anything but herself. Needs a powerhouse disco diva voice with a huge range.

Mother Superior:
Caucasian Female, 45-65. An old school catholic mother superior with a spine of steel, a will of iron, and an acid tongue, but underneath a hidden heart. Strong, unwavering voice - alto or mezzo.

Sister Mary Robert:
Caucasian Female, 18-25. A young timid novitiate, She is torn whether to take her final vows or leave the convent to rejoin the world that intimidates her so. Her shy personality masks a huge, show stopping powerful singing voice. Sings a big Act II solo, “The Life I Never Led.” Needs a strong belt and legit voice.

Sister Mary Patrick:
Caucasian Female, 25-45. Upbeat, fun, and filled with love and delight in God, and friendship. She is the eternal optimist. She is always the head cheerleader ready for an adventure, a life experience, or between meal-time snack. Has a round, heavy physique. Strong comic. Needs a strong belt and legit voice.

Sister Mary Lazarus:
Caucasian Female, 45-65. Tough, full of vinegar and humor, with twice the energy of anyone half her age. She’s quick on the wisecracks and always ready to roll up her sleeves and dig in. Strong belt and legit a plus, but needs to be able to rap and be a great comic.

Monsignor O'Hara:
Caucasian Male, 55-65. Stately but benevolent, with an Irish twinkle. Strong character actor with a strong baritone voice.

Curtis:
African-American Male, 35-55. A super cool, super confident, smooth bad guy with soul. He is a tough narcissist with sex appeal, and charisma. He is elegant and dangerous. Needs extremely strong voice. Low baritone or high baritenor – a strong falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons).

Eddie:
African-American Male, 25-45. A desk cop. He is charming and straight forward. He should have theatrical flair for the dream sequence when he imagines himself as hip and sexy. Has charm and must be appealing. Must have a beautiful high baritone or tenor.

TJ:
African-American Male, 20-46. Curtis’ nephew. An undersized, or oversized overeager young man. He is well-intended, but doesn’t always have the brain power to think ahead. Must have comic chops. Very strong tenor, with a strong disco falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons.)

Pablo:
Hispanic Male, 20-35. Curtis’ bodyguard who keeps mouthing off in Spanish. Must have comic chops. Strong baritone or tenor, with a strong disco falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons).

Female Ensemble:
Characters are ages 18-64, All Ethnicities. Great singers and strong movers of all types, shapes and sizes. Should have style and the ability to play various characters- including nuns and blue collar Philadelphians – and understudy principal roles. Seeking women to play Sister Mary Martin-of Tours (an out-of-it nun who’s in her own little world); and Tina and Michelle (Deloris’s back-up singers; low-rent, but sexy, a la The Pointer Sisters, with sassy attitude); They need to move very well and cover the role of Deloris. There are two additional strong dancers among the female ensemble. All need very strong legit and belt voices.

Male Ensemble:
Characters are ages 18-64, All Ethnicities. Great singers (with disco falsetto, a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons) and strong movers of all ethnic types, shapes and sizes. Should have style and the ability to play various small roles- including blue-collar Philadelphians- and understudy principal roles.
