The play obviously takes a page from The Golden Girls, so don’t be afraid of the timing and sensibilities of Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Ma - but it goes deeper than any single episode could. The events of the play are life changing for our characters who will come to terms with a lot over the course of the evening. We’ll need to rely on our cast to play pathos, love, fear and of course comedy. These characters are played as complete humans who are inherently funny, but fully capable of broken hearts.

SEEKING:

No roles will be understudied.

BENNY - 60ish, male, ex-politico with a big heart and a short fuse. A Long Island native, former partner of Chuck. He’s still mad at Al Gore for conceding and always ready to give one of his bleeding hearted liberal rants. Benny and Chuck are the heart and soul of the play. Benny is a Jewish man from Long Island.

CHUCK - 60ish, male, retired army veteran, masculine type with fussy OCD tendencies. Chuck’s age is catching up to him, physically and mentally. Proud and strong, his time in the service made him the man we know today, but coming out resulted in the break-up of his family which has haunted him. Chuck owns the house in which the play takes place. Chuck and Benny are the heart and soul of the play. Chuck is a BIPOC member of the queer community.

THE TWINK aka TOBY - 20s-30s, male, any ethnicity, shallow, vain, gym bunny. The Twink has been with Jerry (our off-stage Silver Fox) for nearly five years, but the work he’s had done makes it hard to nail down his age. He’s obtuse and guileless, but tough and resilient. He faced adversity as a child but found a path forward, forging his own out and proud path as a career twink.

CECIL - 70ish, male, from the South, any ethnicity, effeminate man who’s always the life of the party. CECIL has always been a hero to Benny and Chuck and is, in fact, responsible for their meeting. Always ahead of the queer curve, Cecil has been living his authentic self from the start - even when it wasn’t fashionable. After a career as a hairdresser, Cecil has fallen on hard times and is now at the mercy of his uncaring brother and lives in a homophobic assisted living facility.

NIKA/TRISH/MISS SWENSON/AS CAST - 30s/40s, any ethnicity. One actor will play the following roles. Each role should feel different (costumes, wigs will help), they should each live in the real world, and be able to convey comedy and drama. Not stock characters, eccentric humans.

NIKA - 30ish, smart, stylish woman with a blunt haircut and imperceptible British accent.

TRISH - 30ish, Nika's wife, smart, stylish with a blunt haircut (mirror imaged to Nika's).

MISS SWENSON - 40ish, conservative, bigoted, no nonsense manager from Cecil’s assisted living facility.

PREPPY MAN - 30ish, in tennis whites and headband.

BEAR TYPE - 60ish, party guest with muscles, paunch and handlebar moustache.
