BREAKDOWN

This is a local call. Seeking Washington DC Actors for the following roles:

FLOYD BARTON
35. Black, African American. A man with an electric ripe dream. A blues singer/guitarist with big aspirations and flaws; passionate and hopeful, with an exuberant bravura-- knows how to do the right thing for a little while, but then that little while runs out.

HEDLEY
59. Black, African American. Walks the machete's edge between dignity and rage. Keeps, butchers, and sells chickens. Suffers from tuberculosis and possible dementia, desirous and disturbed. No one really knows his story, but we know he’s been through a lot. Lives mentally in a past and future fantasy.

LOUISE
48. Black, African American. A hearty woman who describes herself as forty-going on sixty. The matriarch with astringent wit and tamped-down tenderness. All-seeing, all-knowing, she's the independent and lively landlady of the tenant house where the play takes place. She doesn’t rock the boat, but issues wise warnings; a realist. A bold major E chord personality.

VERA DOTSON
27. Black, African American. Stoic. Not swayed by romance. Forlorn and self-knowing. Strong willed. Faithful, and wary; has been given the run-around by her ex-boyfriend Floyd, but continues to take him back.

RED CARTER
30s, Black, African American. Floyd’s friend and drummer. An expansive, laid-back fellow. Superstitious, simpler, steadier, balanced. From Alabama. Likes to have a good time, but is in the middle of 7 years bad luck because he broke a mirror.

RUBY
25. Black, African American. Free-spirited niece of Louise. Stubborn, young, and fatally attractive, won’t belong to anyone, but needs someone to help care for her unborn child.

CANEWELL
35. Black, African American. One of Floyd’s closest friends. An edgy and quick tempered harmonica player. Tired of playing second fiddle to Floyd. Edgy, wary, and dissatisfied, thinks he knows best. Layers of joy, passion and pain.
