Simmering between two Puerto Rican sisters is a family tension that finally comes to a boil. Forced to confront the reality of their father’s rapidly declining health, Renata and Caridad clash over cultural divides, unearth old wounds, and reveal long buried secrets. As Caridad’s Sancocho bubbles on the stove, will the two sisters reconcile their past resentments to face their uncertain futures – together? A searing world premiere play by Christin Eve Cato.
Seeking:
Caridad De -HV~s, [CAST] 58 years old, Puerto Rican, a matriarch (Renata's sister). She is afro latina, a dark skinned Boricua woman. Extremely capable and smart, though her intelligence has been applied to practical, rather than intellectual pursuits. A caregiver by nature and circumstance, she has great warmth, but also shuts down very quickly when she feels uncomfortable. She’s kept too many secrets for too long, and they have hardened her. Switches seamlessly between English and Spanish.
Renata De -HV~s-Perez, 33 years old, Puerto Rican, a lawyer (Caridad's sister). She is light skinned Latina. Smart, driven, the youngest child who was given all the education and opportunity. She lives her life outside the neighborhood in which she grew up, and she’s a little restless here. Focused on self healing and eager to free the skeletons hiding in all the closets – especially now that she’s going to be a mother herself. Curious, a bit relentless.
