Beauty and the Beast
Rehearsal Begins: June 6, 2017 Performances: June 20 – July 2, 2017
BEAST: (A2-F4) Baritone. Once a handsome young prince, the Beast is transformed as punishment for his cruel treatment of an enchantress in disguise. Now the snarling, ill-tempered master of his enchanted castle, he is losing hope of ever finding love and breaking the enchantress’ spell. Despite their hostile beginnings, Belle brings out a kinder, gentler side of him. However, he must prove he can love her selflessly before it is too late and the spell becomes permanent. Sings If I Can’t Love Her and Something There.
BELLE: (E3-F5) Lyrical Mezzo. Bright and spirited, Belle satisfies her longing for adventure with her avid reading. Unique in her small town for her independence and intelligence, she is viewed as an outsider. Belle selflessly takes her father’s place as the Beast’s prisoner, willing to do anything to protect him. As she explores her new home in the enchanted castle, she begins to discover the secrets of not only the castle, but of it’s master’s true nature. Sings No Matter What, Is This Home? and A Change in Me.
LEFOU: (B2-G4) Character High Baritone. Lefou is Gaston’s hapless, dim-witted lackey. Devoted to his master, Lefou suffers repeated humiliation to win Gaston’s approval. Must be an excellent comedian and physical actor. Sings Gaston.
GASTON: (A2-F4) Baritone. Handsome, arrogant and altogether vile, Gaston’s favorite subject is himself. Self-centered and shallow to the core, he sees the world as his for the taking. Enamored with Belle, her rejection wounds his ego and makes him a dangerous foe for everyone she cares for. Sings Me, and Maison des Lunes.
MAURICE: (Bb2-Db4) Baritone. Maurice is Belle’s bumbling and devoted father. An inventor by trade, he is enthusiastic about his work, albeit scatter-brained. While trying to rally the villagers to rescue Belle from the Beast in the castle he is ridiculed by Gaston and thrown into an asylum. Sings No Matter What.
COGSWORTH: (A2-E4) Baritone. Formerly head of the household staff of the Prince’s castle, the enchantress’ spell is transforming Cogsworth into a clock. Already tightly wound, inflexible and very British, he is Lumiere’s foil and though fond of Belle, entirely submissive to his master. Must be an excellent comedian. Featured in Something There and Human Again.
LUMIERE: (A2-F#4) Baritone. Suave, smooth-talking and oozing with charm and charisma, Lumiere was the maître d’ in the Prince’s castle but is turning into a Candelabrum under the enchantress’ spell. Light-hearted despite their bleak situation, Lumiere hopes Belle is the one to break the spell and save them all. Sings Be Our Guest.
BABETTE: Mezzo. Babette is the sexy, saucy, French maid in the castle. The object of Lumiere’s affections, she is also under the enchantress’ spell and being turned into a feather duster. Sings in Human Again.
MRS. POTTS: (F#3-G5) Mezzo. The Prince’s warm-hearted cook, Mrs. Potts is becoming a tea pot under the enchantress’ spell. Maternal and kind, she comforts Belle upon her arrival at the castle. Sings Beauty and the Beast.
MADAME DE LA GRANDE BOUCHE: (C#4-G5) Soprano. Once the toast of Europe and a grand opera diva, Madame De La Grande Bouche has been caught under the enchantress’ spell and is turning into a wardrobe. Boisterous and bawdy, she is larger than life in everything she does. Sings in Human Again.
CHIP: (D4-D5) Child Belt. 10-12. Chip is Mrs. Pott’s energetic and inquisitive young son and is becoming a tea cup under the enchantress’ spell. Must be 4’8 or under in height. Featured in Be Our Guest.
On The Town
Rehearsal Begins: June 27, 2017 Performances: July 11 – July 16, 2017
GABEY: (Bb2-A4) High Baritone. 20’s-30’s. Earnest and enthusiastic, Gabey is a US Navy Sailor with 24 hours leave in New York City. He falls head over heels in love with Miss Turnstiles, Ivy Smith, after one look at her picture and spends his visit to New York determined to find and woo her. Must be an excellent dancer with strong partnering skills. Sings Lonely Town and Lucky To Be Me.
CHIP: (Bb2-G4) High Baritone. 20’s-30’s. Energetic, a bit naïve, and devoted to his friend Gabey for saving his life, Chip is a US Navy Sailor from Peoria with 24 hours leave in New York City. A slave to his father’s outdated guidebook, he is determined to see all the sights his Daddy told him about. Chip’s sightseeing plans get derailed when he becomes the object of Hildy’s enthusiastic affection. Must be an excellent dancer. Sings New York, New York, and Ya Got Me.
OZZIE: (F2-G4) Character Bass/Baritone. 20’s-30’s. A US Navy Sailor on leave in New York City for 24 hours, Ozzie’s sights are set on one thing - girls! With a self-proclaimed knack for getting ladies that can’t be beat, he pitches in to help Gabey find Ivy Smith but is distracted when he runs into Claire DeLoone. Must be an excellent dancer. Sings New York, New York, and Carried Away.
IVY SMITH: (C4-G5) Mezzo. 20’s-30’s. Recently crowned Miss Turnstiles for June, Ivy Smith is a small town girl longing to quit her job as a cootch dancer on Coney Island and become a real actress in New York. Spirited and charming, she agrees to a date with Gabey but is soon forced to choose between her heart and her income! Must be an excellent dancer with strong partnering skills. Sings in Carnegie Hall Pavane.
HILDY: (A3-G5) Belt and Mezzo. 20’s-30’s. A female cab-driver in New York City, Hildy is brash, confident and crazy about Chip. She knows what she wants and rarely takes no for an answer. Eager to salvage her night out with Chip, Hildy sets Gabey up with her roommate when Miss Turnstiles is a no-show. Must be an excellent comedienne. Sings I Can Cook Too.
CLAIRE DE LOONE: (F3-C5) Soprano and Belt. 20’s-30’s. The beautiful and intelligent anthropologist that is object of Ozzie’s affections, Claire’s poised exterior hides her man-obsessed, somewhat zany, wild side. Engaged to Judge Pitkin, she tends to get carried away with her amorous thoughts despite her best efforts to exercise restraint. Sings in Carried Away and Ya Got Me.
MAUDE P. DILLY/LITTLE OLD LADY/DIANA DREAM/DELORES DELORES: (C4-D5) Character Mezzo. 40’s-60’s. Ivy Smith’s strict, no-nonsense, whiskey swigging vocal coach at Carnegie Hall. Madam Dilly encourages Ivy to abandon her plans with Gabey and go to work to earn money to pay for her lessons. Actress also plays Little Old Lady and lounge singers Diana Dream and Delores Delores. Must be an excellent comedienne. Sings Carnegie Hall Pavane, and I Wish I Was Dead.
PITKIN W. BRIDGEWORK: (A2-D4) Bass. 40’s-60’s. Pitkin is a Judge and Claire De Loone’s stately and extremely understanding fiancé. Easily cuckolded and a bit gullible, he is unaware of Claire’s true feelings for Ozzie. Sings I Understand.
LUCY SCHMEELER: 20’s-30’s. Lucy is Hildy’s roommate. A homebody with a nasty cold, Lucy jumps at the chance to be Gabey’s blind date for the evening despite her illness.
WORKMAN/MISS TURNSTILES’ ANNOUNCER/DREAM CONEY ISLAND MASTER OF CEREMONIES/BIMMY: (F2-E4) Bass. 30’s-50’s. Featured in I Feel Like I’m Not Out Of Bed Yet, and The Real Coney Island.

VIOLET NEWSTEAD: (F3-D5) Alto with Soprano Mix. 40’s. Violet is the overworked, underappreciated Senior Office Manager at Consolidated Industries. The widowed mother of a teenage boy, she is efficient, smart and ambitious. Violet dreams of breaking into the boys club and being recognized for her hard work. Sings Around Here, One of the Boys and Let Love Grow.
DORALEE RHODES: (E3-E5) Country Pop. 20’s. Spirited, bright and sexy, Texas-native Doralee is Franklin Hart’s secretary and the constant victim of his unsolicited advances. Big hearted and kind, she proves she is more than her voluptuous appearance. Sings Backwoods Barbie and in Shine Like the Sun and Change It.
JUDY BERNLY: (F#3-F5) Strong Mix with High Belt. 30’s. Judy is meek and anxious to please as she joins the working world for the first time. Recently separated due to her ex-husband’s infidelity, she is eager to find her way and prove she can stand on her own two feet. Sings Get Out and Stay Out and in Shine Like the Sun and Change It.
ROZ: (E2-C5) Alto. 30’s-50’s. The ever present office snitch, Roz harbors an unrequited love for Franklin Hart. Winning the Boss’s approval and affection motivates her every move. Sings Heart to Hart.
FRANKLIN HART, JR.: (C#3-Gb5) High Baritone. 40’s to 60’s. A notoriously bigoted executive at Consolidated Industries, Franklin Hart is arrogant, chauvinistic and leering. Frequently harassing Doralee, belittling Judy and taking Violet for granted, he is the subject of an elaborate revenge plot to get his due. Sings Here For You.

Rehearsal Begins: July 28, 2017 Performances: August 8 – August 13, 2017
GLORIA: (Bb3-Db4) Alto Belt. 20’s-30’s. Gloria is a fiery young reporter determined to get her story. Ambitious, tenacious and a little vicious, she is convinced Shoeless Joe Hardy isn’t who he says he is. Must be an excellent dancer. Sings Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, MO.
WELCH: 40’s-60’s. The wealthy and enthusiastic owner of the Washington Senators, Welch is hopeful that Joe Hardy may be just what his team needs to finally beat the Yankees.
MEG: (G3-F5) Mezzo. 40’s-Early 50’s. Meg is Joe Boyd’s generous and devoted wife. After her husband’s mysterious disappearance she never loses hope that he’ll return to her. Meg allows the young Joe Hardy to board in her home and is a sympathetic and supportive ear to the strangely familiar young man. Sing’s A Man Doesn’t Know.
VAN BUREN: (Eb3-F4) Baritone. 40’s-50’s. Benny Van Buren is the Washington Senators’ manager. Fiercely proud of his team despite their long dry spell, he lives and breathes baseball. Encouraging of his players to the last, he reminds them that baseball is only one half skill and the other half is heart. Sings Heart.
JOE HARDY: (A2-F4) Baritone. 20’s. Joe Hardy is the 22 year old long ball hitter the Washington Senators have been waiting for. Joe is earnest, good hearted and single minded. Despite his dedication to his new team, Joe’s longing for Meg and the life he left behind as Joe Boyd threaten to derail his plans to carry the Senators to the pennant. Must dance well. Sings A Man Doesn’t Know and Two Lost Souls.
SMOKEY: (Eb3-F4) Baritone. 20’s-30’s. Smokey is the Big Bat of the Washington Senators’ baseball team with a fondness for crosswords and pretty girls. Must be an excellent dancer. Featured in Heart and The Game.
JOE BOYD: (D3-F4) Baritone. 40’s-Early 50’s. A middle aged real estate broker and baseball fanatic, Joe would do anything for his favorite team, to win the pennant. In his desperation to see the Senators triumph over the Yankees, Joe makes a deal with Mr. Applegate to transform himself into the young long ball hitter the team needs. Sings Goodbye Old Girl.
DORIS: 40’s-Early 50’s. Doris is Meg Boyd’s friend from back home in Hannibal, MO and an enthusiastic baseball fan. Her dedication to the Washington Senators cannot be matched and she is willing to do her part to see her team beat the Yankees.
ROCKY: (E3-Bb4) Tenor. 20’s-30’s. Tough but a little slow on the uptake, Rocky is a member of the Washington Senator’s baseball team with a fondness for pretty girls and a hankering to finally beat the Yankees. Must be an excellent dancer. Featured in Heart and The Game.
MR. APPLEGATE: (A#2-D#4) Character Baritone. 30’s-60’s. Charming and slick, the Devil, appearing as Mr. Applegate, strikes a deal with Washington Senators fan Joe Boyd: A Senators pennant win in exchange for Joe's soul at baseball season’s end. However, Joe negotiates an escape clause, so while Applegate plots and schemes to ensure his side of the bargain, he longs for the time when being evil was easier. Sings Those Were The Good Old Days.
LOLA: (F3-Cb5) Alto. 20’s-30’s. Lola is the sultry, devious and 172-year-old associate of Mr. Applegate’s employed to distract Joe Hardy. Though a seductress by trade, she is charmed by Joe’s earnest nature and quickly abandon’s Mr. Applegate’s orders and helps Joe win. Must be an excellent dancer. Sings A Little Brains, A Little Talent and Whatever Lola Wants.
SISTER: (Bb3-Eb5) Mezzo. 40’s-Early 50’s. Doris’ sister and Meg’s old friend from Hannibal, MO. Seasoned Sister possesses a positively youthful exuberance for baseball. Devoted to her friends and her team, she’ll do her part to help the Senators beat the Yankees.

DELORIS VAN CARTIER: (E3-F#5) Expansive Belt Range. 20’s-30’s. Brassy and crafty, Deloris is a Donna Summer wannabe with dreams of glitz, glamour and fabulous glory. Brash and single-minded, she looks out for herself and no one else. After witnessing a murder, she is left at the mercy of the Sisters of Queen of Angels Convent where she must learn to put her faith in something other than herself. Sings extensively throughout, including Fabulous, Baby!, Raise Your Voice, and Take Me To Heaven.
CURTIS JACKSON: (A2-Ab4) High Baritone. 30’s-40’s. Smooth, charismatic and dangerous, Curtis is a Philadelphia club owner, underworld ringleader and Deloris’ married boyfriend. An opportunist and narcissistic, he orders his gang to hunt Deloris down after she sees him murder one of his own thugs. Sings When I Find My Baby.
JOEY: (Bb2-Eb5) Baritone with High Falsetto. 20’s-40’s. Joey is big, burly and a fiercely loyal member of Curtis’ gang. A self-described ladies’ man, he is certain he can get close to any woman, including nuns. Sings in Lady in the Long Black Dress.
PABLO: (B3-F5) Tenor with High Falsetto. 20’s-40’s. Pablo is Curtis’ bodyguard and a member of his gang. He speaks almost exclusively in Spanish though TJ and Joey don’t understand a word he is saying. Sings in Lady in the Long Black Dress.
TJ: (Db3-Eb5) Baritone with High Falsetto. 20’s-40’s. TJ is Curtis’ nephew and an overeager and somewhat dim-witted member of his gang. Sings in Lady in the Long Black Dress.
EDDIE SOUTHER: (Ab2-B4) Expansive High Baritone Range. 20’s-30’s. Charming and unassuming, Eddie is the by-the-book Philadelphia cop protecting Deloris. His crush on Deloris causes him to perspire anxiously, earning him the begrudged nickname Sweaty Eddie. Eddie longs to be the hip, sexy and suave man he thinks Deloris wants. Sings I Could Be That Guy.
MOTHER SUPERIOR: (D3-E5) Alto and Mezzo. 40’s-60’s. Stalwart and iron-willed, Mother Superior looks after the Sisters of Queen of Angels Convent fiercely and passionately. Though at first righteous and unwavering, the wonderful changes in her Sisters melts her icy exterior and reveals her warm heart. Sings Here Within These Walls and I Haven’t Got A Prayer.
MONSIGNOR O’HARA: (F#3-G4) Tenor. 50’s-60’s. Benevolent Monsignor O’Hara is the priest at Queen of Angels Parish. Kind and charitable, he hides Deloris in the convent and is delighted by the fresh new music she brings to the church, not to mention the new parishioners in the pews.
SISTER MARY ROBERT: (F#3-A5) High Belt. 20’s. Mary Robert is a timid young postulant, waiting for her call to sisterhood. At first shy, modest and a slave to the rules of the convent, Deloris’ infectious music draws out a huge, show-stopping singing voice. Her experiences with Deloris cause her to question whether to take her final vows or leave the convent. Sings The Life I Never Led.
SISTER MARY PATRICK: (G3-C5) Alto with Ability to Squeal E6. 20’s-40’s. Enthusiastic, good-natured and sweet, Sister Mary Patrick believes it is truly great to be a nun. Eternally optimistic, she finds joy and delight in everything she does. Must be a strong comedienne. Sings in It’s Good To Be A Nun and Bless Our Show.
SISTER MARY LAZARUS: (G3-C5) Alto Rapper. 40’s-60’s. Tough, wisecracking and full of gusto, Mary Lazarus is dry and cynical, but happy to lend a hand, especially when it’s right for the convent. Must be a strong comedienne. Sings in It’s Good To Be A Nun and Bless Our Show.
