SEEKING

7 possibly 8 actors. Also seeking possible future replacements and possible understudies.

There are no SM or ASM positions available.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a contemporary monologue under 2 minutes. Bring picture and resume.

For ABASIAMA UFOT:
50’s. Mother and wife. Born in Nigeria and currently living in Worcester, Massachusetts. Infinite and profound love for her family. She is resilient and trying hard to support her husband who is losing his grip on reality. Compassionate, even when the cost is high. Seeking an actor with great emotional depth who is skilled with language. Ibibio accent. *This actor may also play ABASIAMA EKPEYOUNG in IN OLD AGE** Transgender and gender non-conforming actors encouraged to attend for all roles.

For DISCIPLE UFOT:
50’s. Born in Nigeria and currently living in Worcester, Massachusetts. Patriarch of Ufot family in America. He is impervious to the winter climate. He is forever hot. He has left behind his homeland but is discovering he can never escape it. A man coming to terms with the scars of his childhood. In western medical terms, he would be described as living with PTSD. Seeking an actor with great emotional depth who is skilled with language.Ibibio accent. Transgender and gender non-conforming actors encouraged to attend for all roles.

For SISTER:
Early 20’s. Middle daughter. Born in Nigeria. Loving and protective especially of her little brother. Often has to be the bravest person in her family. Also plays the tree. Ibibio accent.Transgender and gender non-conforming actors encouraged to attend for all roles.

For MOTHER:
40s-60s. Ufot family matriarch. Born in Nigeria. Pillar of the family. Commands respect. Deeply religious. Ibibio accent.Transgender and gender non-conforming actors encouraged to attend for all roles.

For BEN GUN:
Late 20s. Born in Nigeria. A victim of early national strife. Haunted by his past. Battle-ravaged. The favorite child who lost everything, very physically vulnerable. Ibibio accent.Transgender and gender non-conforming actors encouraged to attend for all roles.

For BOY:
Actor should be 18 or older but read 12-14. Born in Nigeria. Youngest son of the family. His older Sister is his greatest protector and he loves her unconditionally. Has not been able to speak. He is constantly finding ways to soothe and comfort himself. An innocent. Ibibio accent.Transgender and gender non-conforming actors encouraged to attend for all roles.

For AZELL ABERNATHY:
40s plus. Feels Old. Male. Wood worker. A deeply pleasant man who keeps a tight grip on himself. He is trying to atone for his past and is always striving to be a gentleman. Has worked with his hands all of his life. Weathered. Southern (Montgomery, Alabama) accent.*ACTORS IN A DYNAMIC RANGE OF AGES FOR THIS ROLE ENCOURAGED TO AUDITION **Transgender and gender non-conforming actors encouraged to attend for all roles.

For ABASIAMA EKPEYOUNG:
40s plus. Feels even older. Female. Shell. Born in Nigeria and currently living in Worcester, Massachusetts. Strong and weary. Haunted in more ways than one. A devoted mother. Capable of great warmth, but mistrusting of strangers. Living on her own has made her uncompromising. Ibibio accent. *This actor may also play ABASIAMA UFOT in RUN BOY RUN** ACTORS IN A DYNAMIC RANGE OF AGES FOR THIS ROLE ENCOURAGED TO AUDITION.
