Please prepare 1-3 minutes of material. Either one or two contrasting contemporary monologues or one monologue and a brief song. An accompanist will be provided.

VICTOR PRYNNE: he/him, 30’s-40’s, Amanda’s husband, A conservative English gentleman. Fiercely loyal and dependable, but unimaginative and smug. British accent.

SIBYL CHASE: she/her, 20’s-30’s, pretty, a conventional English rose. Innocent and pleasant. Threatened by Amanda. British accent.

ELOYT CHASE: he/him, 30-40’s, Sibyl’s husband, Good-looking, well-dressed and well-traveled. Sarcastic, irreverent, and temperamental at times, but is also the life of the party. Playing the piano is a plus. British accent.

LOUISE: she/her, 40’s-60’s, The French maid. Has a perfect French accent, fluent French is a plus. A comedic character.

WOMAN 1: she/her, 40’s-50’s, the Wife, the co-host of an extravagant New York City penthouse cocktail party with her husband, seeking more from her life, yearns to become a mother but is discontent with her distant husband. Vocal range D3-G5.

MAN 2: he/him, 20’s-30’s, the younger man who is not as confident as Man 1. Enjoys being a bachelor, but may want to marry someday. Vocal range G3-A5.

SARA: she/her, Black woman, early 20’s. Tenacious, spunky, tough and resilient. A slave woman with a fighting spirit, unwilling to be broken by her circumstances. Crafty and a sharp, witty tongue. Slowly becoming a union spy.

ABNER/MALIK: he/him, Black man, early 20’s. (ABNER) Energetic and driven. A bit stubborn but strong-willed. A runaway slave and soldier for the Union. Brother of Sara. Loves his sister fiercely. MISSY SUE/CANDICE: she/her, White woman. (MISSY SUE) late 30’s, early 40’s. Spirited, driven, a strong sense of duty and mission. Somewhat oblivious. Emotionally free and open. Daughter of Sara’s Master and Sara’s former childhood friend. (CANDICE) mid-20’s. Loquacious, intellectually curious and uncensored in her ideas. Can be misinterpreted as insensitive but is likely unaware. Emotionally free and open. Student and Assistant to Sara.

HERECULE POIROT: he/him, 40’s-60’s, Belgian dialect, a famous detective and an iconic character, he is authoritative, charismatic and very intelligent. He is a man of the Law, with a strong moral sense. Aware of his reputation.

MONSIEUR BOUC: he/him, 40’s-50’s, Belgian dialect, the owner of the Orient Express. Good humored, honest and a ball of energy. Prefers the grandeur. Has great comedic timing.

MARY DEBENHAM: she/her, 20’s-30’s, English dialect, a beautiful and young English governess, has a sadness about her, romantic although entangled in an affair; very good at keeping secrets.

HECTOR MACQUEEN: he/him, 20’s-40’s, American dialect, the personal assistant and secretary to Samuel Ratchett; he always seems tightly wound and nervous.

MICHEL the CONDUCTOR/HEAD WAITER: he/him, 30’s-40’s, French and Turkish dialects, Michel is the French conductor for the 1st class carriages on the Orient Express. Very good at his job; he is polite and has a grave sense of humor. Doubles as the arrogant Head Waiter of the Tokatlian Hotel. Has great comedic timing.

PRICESS DRAGOMIROFF: she/her, 60’s-80’s, Russian dialect, a Russian princess who is extravagant, opinionated, arrogant, formal and used to getting her way.

GRETA OHLSSON: she/her, 30’s-40’s, Swedish dialect, plain, frightened, sheep-like and quite odd, she is a devout Catholic missionary and baby nurse serving as a travel partner to the Princess. Has great comedic timing.

COUNTESS ANDRENYI: she/her, 20’s-30’s, Hungarian dialect, dressed decadently in extravagant clothing at all times. Put together impeccably. Wins people over with her smile. In addition to being a Countess, she is also a doctor and very intelligent.

HELEN HUBBARD: she/her, 40’s-60’s, American dialect (from Minnesota), loud, outspoken and jovial. Can be extremely nosy at times. Enjoys the spotlight. Has great comedic timing. Singing and dancing skills a plus.

COLONEL ARBUTHNOT/SAMUEL RATCHETT: he/him, 30’s-50’s, Scottish and American dialects. The COLONEL is a very matter-of-fact, handsome military man who comes from old money. Charismatic with a tender heart. Has great comedic timing. SAMUEL RATCHETT is an American businessman who is brusque, domineering, unforgiving and threatening. Some may even go so far as to call him evil.

The notice will include the following:

Requirement for proof of vaccination/negative test.

Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, non-members, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, COVID Safety Managers, etc.) will be required to undergo a symptom check and provide one of the following prior to entry into the venue:

- Proof of full vaccination. “Fully vaccinated,” as defined by the CDC, is more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine.

Two-ply cloth face masks, surgical masks, singer’s masks and respirators (N95, KN95 or KF94) will be allowed for face coverings. Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable face coverings. Everyone in the holding room and audition room will always wear a face covering as described above, except for the actor when they are actively auditioning. The time spent unmasked should be as minimal as possible. Face coverings must be worn correctly (covering the nose and mouth). If the risk level for St. Louis is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 24 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there is a chance that the auditions may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with appointments will be notified if the auditions must be postponed or cancelled.

We encourage members to prepare for their audition at home, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms. Additional information required in notice:

Holding/Audition room information:

The audition room is 1500 square feet and can accommodate no more than 15 individuals at a time.

The holding room is 800 square feet and can accommodate no more than 22 individuals at a time.
