Breakdown

Mark Rothko
(50s, Caucasian) Rothko is a painter of great renown and could be described much like his work; fiery, passionate, and erratic. His stubbornness and pride cause a resounding dissatisfaction with his surroundings, the people who work for and with him, and even at times his own work. He is frustrated with his contemporaries and the world of art he finds himself existing in. He holds those around him to high standards and his passion is often channeled into anger and rage. However, he is equally demanding of himself and his own skill. His experience has brought upon a wave of cynicism that now seeps through his paint. He likes to spar and relishes a good challenge or debate. He wants nothing more than to leave a lasting legacy with his art.

Ken
(20s, Caucasian) Ken is Rothko's new assistant, determined to be an artist. Kind, patient, and a bit naïve, he is eager to begin his work and learn from a master. He remains calm under immense pressure and criticism from his mentor. He is passionate, articulate, and cultured and can hold his own in a debate. There is a yearning and fire to be better that lives within his being.
