Breakdown

Sparrow Hawke (also plays an angel, Olanaki, 20s) – Sparrow is struggling to be a devout believer and a faithful servant of both God and Mother Radiunce. Sparrow is a recovering crystal meth addict from a small town in the mountains of North Carolina. She copes with a lot of demons and fights the impulse to constantly find the next fix. Sparrow is a follower in every sense and depends on Mother Radiunce for everything. She is loyal, loving, excessive, manic, and often times very childlike. However, when desperate she lashes out with vengeance. She wants nothing more than to be delivered from her demons and to be prophet of Christ. She speaks with a North Carolina Appalachian dialect.
*Scottie Pritchett (also plays as angel, Andraphub, late 40s, Caucasian) – Scottie Pritchett has lived in North Carolina her entire life. Although born in the mountains, she was raised in a textile mill town in the center of the state. A retired millworker who lost her job in the collapse of the textile industry she now lives on disability. As a young woman Scottie lived in the shadow of her older sister and has had to clean up after Tassie her entire life. She is embarrassed of her sister and wants to be seen as “normal”. She is proud, selfish, and pragmatic. She distrusts religion and has no interest in art. She speaks with a North Carolina Appalachian dialect.
*Tassie Laidlaw (50s, Caucasian) – Also known as Mother Radiunce, Tassie has left society and her family to create a place for herself to create a visionary art environment in mountains of North Carolina. She is a self-taught artist and believes God speaks to her and to the world through her paintings which she calls her sermons. She is an absolute believer in a religious faith that she creates from the Bible, her own personal history, and her views of right and wrong. She wants to spread this religion. There is something authentic and disturbing that runs through and is manifested in the work she creates. She is unsentimental, focused, sharp, and can seem callous at times. She is quick to emotion. She speaks with a North Carolina Appalachian dialect.
*Karen Findley-Ives (also plays an angel, Lalliastu, 50s) – Karen is an art history professor and a lover of art. She teaches at a small college in North Carolina but is definitely not from there. She is passionate about her students and giving them the tools to interpret and discuss art and its place in our society. Karen is smart, logical, and savvy and is always looking to learn more. She is a lover of outsider self-taught art because it sparks emotions in her that she has never experienced and challenges her world view. These emotions struggle to find expression and are often hampered by her intellect. Karen considers herself to be agnostic but begins a spiritual journey when she discovers Mother Radiunce and her work.
