SYNOPSIS: Radiant Vermin is described as a fast-paced, pitch-black comedy. Using magical realism, it deals with the housing crisis, homelessness, and ethics. This play slams you through quiet revelation throughout, sweetly showing that for every step up the ladder of prosperity someone pays with their lives and substance. - TheaterPizzazz.com
OLLIE: M, 25-40. Any race/ ethnicity. Capable of fast-paced, dark comedy. Married to Jill. Blue collar, grew up poor. Clever and cautiously optimistic. Hardworking, a provider. Flexible ethics.
JILL: F, 25-40. Any race/ ethnicity. Capable of fast-paced, dark comedy. Married to Ollie. Presents as pregnant at one point in the play. Blue collar, grew up poor. Shrewd, driven, and highly aspirational. Willing to do anything to get her dream home. Her moral compass may be non-existent.
MISS DEE/ KAY: NB/ TGNC, Late 20s- late 60s- Any race/ ethnicity. Miss Dee is an omniscient fairy godmother figure who seems to work for the government. Kay is a homeless teenager. An innocent, seeking redemption. Capable of fast-paced, dark comedy, is comfortable with playing in the larger- than-life drag/ camp space, who turns gender expectations on their head in their unique individual way, as Jay Alexander/ Billy Porter/ Nathan Lee Graham/ Susie Izzard/ Jinx Monsoon each do. Will double as a woman in a dramatic and heart-wrenching role, played with subtle nuance. Queer/ nonbinary/ genderfluid actors are encouraged to audition.
