BREAKDOWN

SYNOPSIS: It’s Miami’s Art Basel, where real estate heiress Julie reigns over the blowout her mogul father is throwing at his South Beach hotel. But after tangling with him and a tray of drinks, Julie plots her next move in the hotel’s storage kitchen with Christine, a waitress who recently fled violence in Venezuela, and Christine’s fiancé John, an Uber driver with ambitions. This explosive elixir of power, class, and race within the Latinx community from playwright Hilary Bettis (TV’s The American’s) examines the timelessness of love and betrayal in this bold new play.

SEEKING:

No roles will be understudied.

[JULIE] - 25, Latina, specifically, mixed Colombian and White. A Miami socialite, daughter of a real estate mogul. Knows conversational Spanish- meaning her accent is not entirely Gringa sounding, she knows what she’s talking about, but she’s less comfortable speaking it. Her internal engine can sometimes be a bit like a shaken Coca-Cola bottle.

[CHRISTINE] - 35, Latina, specifically Venezuelan. A cocktail waitress, just moved to the US from Venezuela. Fluent Spanish, with a Venezuela accent a plus.

[JOHN] - 30s, Black Latino. An Uber driver from Liberty City. He speaks a version of Miami Spanish full of Cuban slang. He is a Latino in the United States living with a dark-skin experience. Buttoned up, carries a bit of traditional machismo energy. Speaks fluent Spanish. Note: Actors who are Black Dominican, Black Puerto Rican, Black Cuban, and/or Black Haitian are encouraged to submit.
