SEEKING
Opera House Arts is currently casting their summer 2018 season productions of The Tempest and I Have Seen Horizons: Ruth Moore’s Stories of Maine.
Opera House Arts is seeking a diverse cast for both productions. Black, Asian, Native, Latino, Arab, White, and Multi-Racial actors are encouraged to audition for all roles in the season
PREPARATION
Please prepare:
1. a contemporary American monologue that tells a story.
2. a brief Shakespeare monologue.
3. If you would like to be considered for the role of Ariel in THE TEMPEST, please prepare a short song to be sung a cappella

THE TEMPEST

Exiled to a fantastical island, Prospero unleashes a churning storm to shipwreck the traitor brother who stole his throne, to settle the score once and for all. But bitter revenge is upended by newfound love in Shakespeare’s late masterpiece.
Note: this is a site-specific production, rehearsed and performed outdoors on a saltwater farm by the sea.
Seeking: versatile actors with strong language skills, vocal and physical strength, and a healthy collaborative spirit.
Equity Roles:
PROSPERO
Male or female, 45-60, the right Duke of Milan.
GONZALO
Male, 50-70, an honest old councilor.
CALIBAN
Male, 35-50, a creature of the island; English is not his first language.
ARIEL
Male or female, any age 30+, an airy spirit; must have strong singing ability; ability to play a hand-held instrument a plus.
SEBASTIAN / STEPHANO
Male, 30-45, a two-character track; brother to the King of Naples--and--a drunken butler.
ANTONIO / TRINCULO
Male or female, 30-45, a two-character track; Prospero's brother, the usurping Duke of Milan--and--a jester.
MIRANDA
Female, 20-30, daughter to Prospero. A bit of a tomboy.

Synopsis:
A celebration of storytelling and place, this production is an adaptation of six of beloved Down East author Ruth Moore’s short stories. Touching, funny, nostalgic and vibrantly alive, Ruth Moore’s characters will bring to the Opera House stage the close-knit, rural communities of twentieth-century Maine. Told through the lens of Moore’s own memories of growing up on Gott’s Island, the stories tell of insiders and outsiders, of isolation and discovery, and offer a window into the region’s past.
The adapted stories include: “The Ladies from Philadelphia”, “The Lonely of Heart”, “Creepy”, “Farmer Takes a Newspaper”, “The Bottle-Green Bottle”, and “When Foley Craddock Tore Off My Grandfather's Thumb”.
