Breakdown
This is a love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. Seeking actors with strong stage backgrounds to play their middle-aged estranged daughter, her former boyfriend from high school, her fiance, and his teenage son. CHARLIE MARTIN - Mid 30’s to early 40’s. A big, round man with a weather-beaten face, smiling eyes and a strong Maine accent. He is indeed a laugher, but not exactly “deficient.” In his rustic, simple, thoughtful way, he is quite charming. CHELSEA THAYER WAYNE - Mid 30’s to early 40’s. Pretty, athletic and spunky, but with a nervous edginess to her, and plenty of her father’s humor and cutting wit. Her innate warmth and charm are buried beneath a veneer of detachment. Way down inside her, there is a young girl still seeking her father’s approval. BILLY RAY - Thirteen, short and flippant, but only to cover his awkwardness. He is eager and bright and has terrible posture. He has a sharp tongue and a wicked wit and isn’t afraid to go head to head with Norman. Strong comedy skills required. BILL RAY - Mid 30’s to early 40’s. An attractive, well-dressed dentist. A tad self conscious but with a good sense of humor when he remembers to use it. ETHEL THAYER - Cast (Christina Pickles) NORMAN THAYER - 79. Boyish and peppery, but has a way of speaking and carrying himself that seem to belong in another era. (Offer pending.)
