SYNOPSIS: NOISES OFF is a play-within-a-play that follows the chaotic, behind-the-scenes mishaps of a theater company as they perform a farce called “Nothing On.” It features a cast of comedic characters who struggle with forgotten lines, technical difficulties, and personal issues, culminating in a rib-splitting performance. The play, written by Michael Frayn, is widely considered a classic of modern British theater and has been performed around the world.

SEEKING:

All the characters are members of the cast of a new comedy entitled “Nothing On”. In Act One we see them in their final dress rehearsal; in Act Two we see them backstage, one month later, during a performance on tour; in Act Three we see them attempting to perform the same play quite a while later after company relationships have soured.

LLOYD DALLAS: Director of the play-within-a-play. Part of a love triangle.

GARRY LEJEUNE/ROGER TRAMPLEMAINE: GARRY - Leading man, who never finishes a sentence. Temperamental. Romantically interested in Dotty and attacks Freddy in his jealousy. ROGER - Estate agent engaged to let the Brent’s house.

BROOKE ASHTON/VICKI: BROOKE - Inexperienced actress from London, pays no attention to anyone, rarely takes direction. Always losing her contact lenses. Part of a love triangle. VICKI - Works for the tax authorities and is trying to woo Roger. Appears in bra & pants.

POPPY NORTON-TAYLOR: Assistant Stage Manager. Envious of Brooke, whom she understudies. Part of a love triangle.

FREDDY FELLOWES/PHILIP BRENT/SHEIKH: FREDDY - Serious fear of violence and blood. Lacks confidence and is rather dim and pompous. PHILIP - Writer who spends time abroad. Married to Flavia. SHEIKH - Interested in renting the house.

TIMOTHY ALLGOOD: Over-worked Stage Manager. Understudies both Selsdon and Freddy.

SELSDON MOWBRAY/BURGLAR: SELSDON - Mannered, alcoholic actor. BURGLAR - Old man who breaks into the Brent’s house.

BELINDA BLAIR/FLAVIA BRENT: Cheerful and sensible. Perhaps a bit oversentimental at times. Has a protective attitude towards Freddy. FLAVIA - Philip’s wife. Not a housewife. Glamorous?

DOTTY OTLEY/MRS CLACKETT: DOTTY - Grande Dame. Forgetful. Has a relationship with Garry and teases him by showing interest in Freddy. MRS CLACKETT - Slow but hospitable, old-fashioned housekeeper to the Brents.
