Breakdown

Meet the Nowaks in their gritty, deteriorating neighborhood in Buffalo, NY. Clara and her grown children: Jimmy, a garbage collector, Bev, a ketchup bottler, and Ruth, who would be a struggling actress if she could only get a part. A new comedy about family, faith, and adjusting to life’s surprises, by the celebrated author of Over the Tavern. See below for details.

CLARA NOWAK: Late 60's. Born in Poland, but brought to the USA as an infant so there is no accent. Charmingly naive Old World peasant air about her. No nonsense. Loves her children, but doesn't always know how to show it.

JIMMY NOWAK: Early 30's. Clara's son. The youngest of the children. A blue-collar garbage man. A bit rough around the edges with a good genial sense of humor, happy staying in Buffalo.

BEVERLY NOWAK: Late 30's. Clara's eldest daughter. Unmarried and outspoken. Has no problem sharing her strong opinions. Wicked sense of humor. Dedicated to her bowling league.

RUTH NOWAK: Mid 30's. Clara's middle child, unmarried, an aspiring actress, gangly and awkward. A little more sophisticated/educated than the rest of her family. Longs to move to New York.
