For 40 years, the Cuban government and the Miami exile community have played an endless game of political tug of war…Then in 1999, a young boy is found on the shores of Florida clinging to life. ELIÁN is a story of hope that soon falls under the watchful eye of the 24-hour news cycle, causing each side of the conflict to pull harder and harder on that rope. We know the story ends with a boy in a closet, a gun pointed at him; but few of us know how it got to that moment. With explosive real-life personalities, painfully hilarious moments, and great compassion, ELIÁN pulls back the curtain and reveals how American democracy really works.

It’s 1929 and we are in Florida at a Cuban–American cigar factory; cigars are still rolled by hand and “lectors” are hired to educate and entertain the workers. When a new lector enters the scene and begins to read aloud Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, he unwittingly becomes a catalyst in the lives of his avid listeners and suddenly the lives of the workers begin to parallel the novel. Old traditions and new ways collide while longing, love, and betrayal spark a volatile flame that signals the end of an era.

Thriller, the Pepsi fire, cocaine cowboys, and a white family moving into a black neighborhood: it’s 1984 and we are in Miami Dade County’s Opa-Locka and life is about to get a whole lot more confusing for a group of kids who want to be the ‘gloved one.’ Defacing Michael Jackson is about growing up, hero worship, and how we see ourselves.

An exploratory journey through an artist’s mind. Moving between memory and fiction, recollection and contemplation, joy and despair, we follow a woman reconciling with what it means to be an artist from a country in crisis. Journeying between the mountains of Haiti, the beaches of Miami, and the skylines of New York City she wrestles with the chaos of the world and memories of what other artists have done in the midst of political turmoil. Create Dangerously is a compassionate and brave look at what it means to make art in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

ENSEMBLE: Haitian. A diverse range of players for multiple characters in the development of this new work. Note: Actors of all ages, genders, and abilities are encouraged to submit.
Requirement for proof of vaccination/negative test:
Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, non-members, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, COVID Safety Managers, etc.) will be required to undergo a symptom check and provide one of the following prior to entry into the venue:
o Proof of full vaccination. “Fully vaccinated,” as defined by the CDC, is more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine.

o Proof of a negative PCR test result taken no earlier than 48 hours prior to entry into the audition venue.

o Proof of two negative antigen test results (e.g., the first taken the night before and the second taken no less than 2 hours) prior to entry into the venue. Results of non-proctored at-home antigen tests will not be accepted.
Two-ply cloth face masks, surgical masks, singer’s masks and respirators (N95, KN95 or KF94) will be allowed for face coverings. Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable face coverings. Everyone in the holding room and audition room will always wear a face covering as described above, except for the actor when they are actively auditioning. The time spent unmasked should be as minimal as possible. Face coverings must be worn correctly (covering the nose and mouth). If the risk level for Miami is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 24 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there is a chance that the auditions may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with appointments will be notified if the auditions must be postponed or cancelled.
We encourage members to prepare for their audition at home, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms. Additional information required in notice:
