Equity actors for roles in Lexington Theatre Company's 2023 Season (see breakdown).

The Lexington Theatre Company typically has 4 Equity contracts per title and seeks all cultural and racial backgrounds, gender identities and disabilities for our 2023 Season, including THE SOUND OF MUSIC, MEMPHIS and IRVING BERLIN'S WHITE CHRISTMAS.

Video Audition Format:

Video auditions must be edited into one file and uploaded as an unlisted video on YouTube or Vimeo. You will paste your ONE video link on the Video Audition Form. Videos may only be submitted by YouTube or Vimeo link. No direct uploads. Please ensure that privacy settings are such that we are enabled to view by the link only, with no need for password or additional access request.

Headshot and Resume files should be uploaded as follows:

SEEKING:

MARIA RAINER - 20-30 (Strong Legit Soprano and Mix, Dances or Moves well) Postulant at Nonnberg Abbey. Free-spirited, headstrong and music-loving, she is looking for her place and her purpose. Fiercely independent and determined, yet also kind, gentle and wonderful with children.

CAPTAIN GEORG VON TRAPP - 35-40 (Baritone, Moves well) Retired Austrian Naval Captain and widower, he is the father of seven children; runs his household in a militaristic style as he hides his grief; underneath his polished and serious demeanor is a kind and gentle soul, who strives to do what is right.

MOTHER ABBESS - 40-50 (Strong Legit Soprano) Revered and inspirational mother-figure and leader to all at Nonnberg Abbey. Wise, firm-but-kind, loving with a heart for all in her care.

MAX DETWEILLER - 40-50 (Baritone/Tenor, Moves well) Theatrical agent and friend to Captain von Trapp; charming and humorous; sophisticated and witty; enjoys the good life.

ELSA SCHRADER - 30-40 (Mezzo-Soprano, Moves well) Wealthy widow and love interest of Captain von Trapp; sophisticated and glamorous; loves the finer things in life.

LIESL VON TRAPP - 16 (Mezzo-Soprano, Dances well) The eldest daughter of the von Trapp family; naïve, yet headstrong; desires a relationship with Rolf Gruber; maternal and caring toward her younger siblings.

ROLF GRUBER - 17 (Baritone/Low Tenor, Dances well) Telegram Boy with feelings for Liesl; pleasant yet self-important; caught up in the Nazi regime and later becomes a Nazi solider.

SISTER BERTHE - 30+ (Mezzo-Soprano, Moves Well) Mistress of Novices; prim and proper; strongly disapproves of Maria’s behavior.

SISTER MARGARETTA - 20+ (Mezzo-Soprano, Moves Well) Mistress of Postulants; kind, caring and understanding; supporter of Maria.

SISTER SOPHIA - 30+ (Mezzo-Soprano, Moves Well) Nun who prefers not to take sides, but follows the rules; dutiful and kind.

FRANZ - 30+ (Non-Singing, Non-Dancing) Butler for the von Trapp Family; quiet and seems very loyal but we later discover his allegiance to the Nazi regime.

FRAU SCHMIDT - 40+ (Non-Singing, Non-Dancing) Housekeeper for the von Trapp Family; efficient but not affectionate; strong and domineering; respected by all, she has been a member of the household for a long time.

HERR ZELLER - 30+ (Non-Singing, Non-Dancing) Nazi official; stern and self-important, his job is ensuring everyone toes the line.

ADULT ENSEMBLE - Strong Singers and Dancers. Nuns, Novices, Postulants (strong singers); Salzburg Citizens (strong dancers); Nazi Soldiers, Festival Concert Performers, Admiral von Schreiber, Baron and Baroness Elberfeld, and others.

MEMPHIS

SEEKING:

HUEY CALHOUN - 25-35 (Tenor with strong Pop/Rock style; Moves very well) Charming, charismatic, fast-talking record salesman, who talks his way into a DJ position at an “all-white” radio station in 1950’s segregated Memphis; falls in love with Felicia - an up and coming black singer; their relationship and attempts to bridge the cultural divide are the center of the story.

FELICIA FARRELL - 20-30 (R&B High Belter; Dances or Moves very well) Beautiful and gifted singer with a kind heart; she falls in love with Huey, and despite all odds in the 1950’s segregated south, we watch her rise to stardom; (possibly triggering material - Felicia is beaten at the end of Act I by white men who disapprove of her interracial relationship with Huey).

DELRAY - 35-45 (Baritenor with great Pop/R&B sound; Moves well) Felicia’s fiercely protective older brother and the owner of the club where she gets her start as a performer; Realistic and cautious, he is keenly aware of the problems that may arise for Felicia if she gets involved with Huey.

GATOR - 25-35 (Tenor with great Pop/R&B sound; Moves well) Bartender at Delray’s Club; Hasn’t spoken since age 5 when he saw his father killed; finds his voice as this story progresses.

BOBBY - 20-40 (Tenor with great Pop/R&B sound; Dances or Moves very well) Janitor at WHDZ; charming and funny with a big personality and heart; later becomes star on Huey’s TV show.

GLADYS CALHOUN - 40-60 (Alto/Belt-Mix; Moves well) Huey’s mother; stern, southern, set in her ways; blue-collar worker who works to support herself and Huey, about whom she is constantly worried.

MR. SIMMONS - 40-60 (Light Singing; Non-Dancing) Southern, conservative owner of the radio station where Huey gets his start; enamored by the money Huey can bring to the radio station.

WAILIN’ JOE/REVEREND HOBSON - 30-45 (Tenor; Dances very well) Wailin’ Joe Sings “Scratch My Itch” in Act I and II; Reverend Hobson is the leader of First Baptist Church.

MR. COLLINS/GORDON GRANT - 35-50 (Light Singing; Non-Dancing) Mr. Collins is Huey’s boss at the store who strongly opposes him playing “black music;” Gordon Grant is an RCA executive who is hoping to sign Felicia; may double as other featured roles and may be in the ensemble as well; (possibly triggering material - this Actor may also play the “white father” who slaps his teenage daughter for listening to “race music”).

BUCK WILEY/MARTIN HOLTON - 35-50 (Light Singing; Non-Dancing) Buck Wiley is the DJ on WHDZ that Huey replaces; Martin Holton is a TV executive from New York; may double as other featured roles and may be in the ensemble as well.

ENSEMBLE - Strong Singers/Dancers to play a variety of roles including Beale Street Club-goers (strong dancers); Memphis Teens (strong dancers); Double-Dutch Girls (strong dancers); “Be Black Trio” (strong dancers); “Someday Back Up Singers,” Ethel, Clara, Perry Como, Frank Dryer and others.

IRVING BERLIN’S WHITE CHRISTMAS

BOB WALLACE - 30-45 (Baritone; Dances or Moves very well) WWII Veteran turned song-and-dance man of the duo “Wallace & Davis;” romantically somewhat awkward, but charming and charismatic; the responsible leader of the duo, a dutiful, kind and principled person.

PHIL DAVIS - 25-40 (Baritone/Tenor; Strong Dancer) WWII Veteran turned song-and-dance man of the duo “Wallace & Davis;” the comedic and boyishly charming of the two; flirtatious and funny; a strong tap and jazz dancer with ballroom/partnering experience.

BETTY HAYNES - 20-30 (Mezzo-Soprano with strong chest mix; Dances or Moves very well) Elder sister of the duo-act “The Haynes Sisters,” the more responsible and sensible of the two, she protects her younger sister and is often shocked by her schemes; a star-in-the-making but she is also humble, modest and principled, a perfect match for Bob, though she doesn’t know it.

JUDY HAYNES - 20-30 (Alto; Strong Dancer) Younger sister of the duo-act “The Haynes Sisters,” the more fun-loving, ambitious and adventurous of the two, she falls for Phil and together the two scheme to get Bob and Betty together as well; a strong tap and jazz dancer with ballroom/partnering experience.

GENERAL HENRY WAVERLY - 50-60 (Non-Singing; Non-Dancing) Retired WWII General having a hard time adjusting to civilian life; runs an inn in Vermont with militaristic style; though gruff and curmudgeonly, has a gentle heart and needs love and family.

MARTHA WATSON - 45-55 (Alto/Belter; Moves well) Once a musical comedy star, now the housekeeper for the inn; witty and wisecracking with dry sense of humor; loves to meddle and gossip, but ultimately has a big heart and cares deeply for the General.

RALPH SHELDRAKE - 30-45 (Baritone; Moves well) Army Buddy of Bob & Phil, now turned fast talking TV executive for the Ed Sullivan Show.

MIKE NULTY - 25-45 (Baritone or Tenor; Moves well) Bob & Phil’s frazzled stage manager; easily falls into hysterics while trying to remain calm; comedic; may double as Mr. Snoring Man.

EZEKIEL FOSTER - 45-65+ (Non-Singing role) Laid-back Vermont-local who lives life at a leisurely pace, becomes a stagehand for the show at the inn; a man of very few words.

ADULT ENSEMBLE - Strong Singers/Dancers to play Band Singers (great with tight vocal harmonies); Dancers in the Wallace & Davis shows (strong tap and jazz dancers), Rita and Rhoda, Tessie, Mrs. Snoring Man, and others.
