Breakdown
Based on the classic American novel by Thomas Wolfe, this autobiographical account of Wolfe’s early years echoes the collective struggles of families in the South of the great depression. The indomitable Eliza Gant runs a boarding house to pay the bills as her drunken husband clings to a dream of carving the perfect sculpture. All of her children have given up dreams of begin able to afford independent lives, except Eugene, who still has hope of leaving home for a brighter future. This powerful drama is lit from within by the love of art for art’s sake, and devotion to family and home.
