NOTE: The production involves a number of scenes involving sex, violence, and simulated gunfire. Specific characters are noted that engage in these scenes frequently. All actors will be involved in this staging. An intimacy choreographer and fight choreographer will be hired for the project.

SEEKING:

JUAN PLANCHARD - CAST. He/him, late 20s-early 30s. Venezuelan. Charismatic, handsome, very smart; university educated with a business administration degree. Disgusted by the long hours and low wages of a ‘respectable’ job, he does what needs to be done to amass wealth through the corruption-driven world that is the normal everyday experience in Venezuela. He travels from place to place compulsively enjoying his wealthy party, sex and drugs lifestyle. But he is essentially lonely. He’s aware his life lacks meaning, and that launches the journey of the play. He falls hard for Scarlet the moment he first sees her.

SCARLET- she/her, mid 20s-early 30s, white. Beautiful, vivacious, well-spoken. A luxury sex worker who looks like a supermodel, she is working her way through UCLA, and engages only with high-value clients. She is used to a life of wealth and comfort. She’s from the U.S. and speaks with an American accent.

*Simulated nudity and sex

MICHAEL- He/him, mid-20s-early 30s, white. Described as a “quarterback, he is handsome and strong. Also a student at UCLA and boyfriend of Scarlet for two years. He does not know of Scarlet’s profession. He’s from the U.S. and speaks with an American accent.

*Simulated sex and gun violence

BRAZILENA/ZOE/VERA GOLDIGER- she/her, late 20s-early 30s, white. One of Juan's many flings/Friend of Scarlet, confidant, also a sex worker. Zoe's jobs vary more than Scarlet's - she has less high-value clients. Always has a quick comeback. She’s from the U.S. and speaks with an American accent./ A well connected businesswoman, a go-between for corrupt government officials and corrupt businessmen. We later find she is an undercover CIA operative. She’s from the U.S. and speaks with an American accent.

DUARTE/TARTUFO/CARLOS/PILOTO- he/him 30s-40s, latino. Venezuelan businessman working in New York. Originally had a modest arepa restaurant, but managed to find a way to make millions with the corrupt Venezuelan government. Speaks with a Venezuelan accent./A member of the Venezuelan police force, who is shot and killed during a raid/A friend of Juan celebrating his wedding/ Venezuelan police force helicopter pilot.

*Simulated drug use and gun violence

MAMA/DIPUTADA- she/her 60s, latina. Was a teacher at a primary school. Is in sync with her husbands morals and values. Both parents worked hard so that Juan was able to go to university. “They are educators, people who believe that, in capitalism, if you study and work you raise your social level.” Character speaks with a Venezuelan accent./A Business woman in charge of prison construction, she attempts to enlist Juan’s help in the building of a new prison

PAPA/CARTAYA- he/him 60s-70s, latino. A retired professor from the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Honest and moral, possessing of the ethical compass that Juan should have inherited but didn’t. He taught Juan to love baseball and academia. He is disgusted and angered by his son’s participation in government corruption. But he also loves him dearly. Refuses to take any money from Juan, lives modestly on his retirement pension in a Caracas apartment. Both parents are anti revolutionary, protesting the lack of democracy. Character speaks with a Venezuelan accent /A Venezuelan police chief, serious about protecting his country and officers, he helps Juan find his mother, for a fee.

PANTERA/MOlLINA/CHAVEZ- he/him 40s-50s, afro-latino. Juan’s bodyguard for two years, a Black man with a white mustache, extremely loyal. Making more money working for Juan than he could hope to in many years anywhere else. /Corrupt customs agent in Venezuela, works for a piece of the action - a large piece. Molina is a brusque know it all and has no time for fools. He calls Juan “Blondie” when his patience with Juan wears thin. Speaks with a Venezuelan accent./El Comandante, President of Venezuela. Revolutionary/South American dictator. Though softspoken because of illness, he has the air of spiritual command, a real presence in a room, everyone leans in and pays strict attention to every word he utters. He is dying of cancer, his hair is growing back after months of baldness from chemo and he is overweight from the steroids used to control it. Speaks with a Venezuelan accent. *Simulated gun violence

LA LIEBRE/RAMIRO- he/him 18-22, latino. A member of Los Tragavenados gang/Head of the gang Los Tragavenados. His bravado is matched by his insolence. He’s ruthless. His eyes burn from the anger of poverty, the sight of too many deaths in his short life. Character speaks with a Venezuelan accent.
