THE LION IN WINTER
Opens 11/6/19, First rehearsal 10/15/19, Runs 11/6/19 - 11/24/19
ELEANOR - Early 60's. Once and still a great beauty. Imperious, devilishly clever, sensual, loving and vulnerable. A woman of great stature and strong prescence. Must be a formidable foe who is also not afraid to show her warmer and softer side.
HENRY - Early to Mid 50's. A passionate man who has both great strengths and great weaknesses. A piercing sense of humor. Mercurial and volatile. A brilliant strategist with a keen mind, matched only by his overwhelming virility and lust for all things.
ALAIS - Early 20's. A great beauty whose very youth and presence is a threat to ELEANOR. She has great softness, but a core of steel underneath. Brought up by ELEANOR, and she may become just like her one day. Loving and innocent, but can find the power to fight back when needed. Sings one song in a casual and relaxed way.
JOHN - Late teens, Early 20's. The baby of the family in every way. Driven by his youth and naivete. Pushes too hard and often with the wrong results. Gangly and unsure of himself. A bit of a cry baby, but not without a violent streak and strong temper.
RICHARD - Mid to Late 20's. Handsome, noble, a great warrior. Truly noble, though a flawed nobility. Projects strength and nobility, but also can be easily hurt. Underneath the strong façade he is actually quite a romantic and quite loving.
GEOFFREY - Early to mid 20's. The quintessential middle child, with a chip on his shoulder. A brilliant thinker who always drifts to the winning side. Uses his quick mind and ability to think fast like a weapon. Emotionally a cool volcano, always rumbling but never quite exploding (even as he pushes others to the edge).
PHILLIP - Late 20's. A beautiful man in every way. Regal, poised, charming and mysterious in all ways. A manipulator who uses his many physical and mental assets to get his way. Kills with a velvet glove. And loves in the same way.
*Actors in this production must have strong facility with language and a great sense of style, grounded in emotional reality. All ethnicities will be strongly considered for all these roles.

CORRIE BRATTER - Female, 20's. A newly wed to her husband, PAUL. She embraces life and has a free spirit. She is optimistic, romantic, funny and passionate about life. Her husband doesn't understand her zeal and need for adventure. She is the complete opposite of her husband. When life and things around her become dull, she can lose her temper.
VICTOR VELASCO - Male, 50's. He is a self-described dirty old man. He is the neighbor to CORRIE and PAUL and lives above in the attic. He is colorful and super eccentric. Bohemian.
TELEPHONE REPAIR MAN - Male, 30-50. He installs and fixes telephones and while doing so, he makes observations on everyday life and relationships. He is kind, sensitive and good humored.
DELIVERY MAN - Male, 50-65. He delivers wedding gifts to the newlyweds and is completely exhausted by all the flights of stairs leading up to their apartment.
