About: Ana, a Latina student at Providence College, struggles to find a sense of belonging. After a chance encounter with Doña Rosa on La Broa' (Providence's Broad Street), a world opens up to her of the Dominican, Colombian, and other Latin-American people who came to Rhode Island and established communities here, and whose joys and struggles mirror her own. La Broa’ (Broad Street) draws from the heartbreaking, heartwarming, and hilarious true stories of Latine Rhode Islanders who have made this place their home, as documented by Marta V. Martínez in the oral history project Nuestras Raíces (Our Roots). This powerful world premiere is presented in Spanish and English; it speaks to how places and people evolve, and how our memories and stories become the fabric that holds us together.
