BREAKDOWN

Synopsis:

Kris Kringle is a dreamer, a young genius toy maker with no place to call home. When he gets an opportunity to apprentice at the North Pole, it seems that all his dreams may finally come true. But on his adventures, he’ll have to navigate jealous schemers, an ancient curse, first love, and Santa’s formidable Rule Book. This funny, captivating show for all ages tells the story of how young Kris Kringle reunited his family and saved the Spirit of Christmas!

Seeking ALL ETHNICITIES for:

KRIS KRINGLE – Male, early 20s, pop baritenor (low B-flat up to high A).
Our hero: Head in the clouds, clumsy and naïve, but honest, warm and open-hearted. He sees toys hidden amongst the stars like most of us see constellations. He dreams of making those toys at the North Pole one day, surrounded by people who appreciate and understand him.

EVELYN NOEL – Female, 20s, pop belt with strong mix (low A up to mixed E-flat; preferably soprano up to B-flat).
Head of the Apprentices’ Boot Camp – it’s her job to get the Apprentices ready to become Elves. A stickler for the Rules, she hides behind a tough and militant exterior…but deep down she’s loving and kind.

NICHOLAS “SANTA” CLAUS – Male, 55+, baritone or bass (low B-flat up to E).
Being “Jolly Old St. Nick” isn’t the dream job it once was. It used to be easy to smile and Ho-Ho-Ho, bringing cheer to young and old. But that all changed when he had to kick his only brother out of the North Pole. He’s lost the joy and wonder he used to feel, but he’s too busy and stubborn to forgive and forget.

MARTHA CLAUS – Female, 50+, lovely mezzo soprano (low G up to E-flat).
There’s way more to being Mrs. Claus than baking gingerbread and keeping Santa as round as a bowl full of jelly. She’s witty, sassy and most definitely wearing the pants in this relationship…but she’s also the heart of the North Pole. She notices how special Kris is and takes him under her wing in a motherly way.

ROY G. REEDY – Male, 50+, character baritone (low B-flat up to F-sharp).
Santa’s estranged younger brother. Once the North Pole’s most brilliant and creative toy maker, he was eventually kicked out for trying to monetize Christmas. Now the mogul of a soulless corporate toy empire, he hides his anger and sadness behind wicked schemes and lots of money.

ERMA HORN – Female, 30s-40s, character belt (low F up to D-flat).
Reedy’s wry and careworn lawyer. She’ll do whatever it takes for her client to succeed, even when his ethics are questionable—all in hopes of finally earning a Christmas bonus. She’s observant, crafty, and often couches her witty remarks in law-inspired puns.

ELMER ELF – Male, 20s-40s, rockabilly bari-tenor (E up to high A).
Head of the Elves’ Workshop. Takes his job, and his carefully crafted Elvis persona, very seriously. A little too full of himself and way too interested in Evelyn. Think Gaston in elf shoes.

ANGELICA KRINGLE – Female, 50+, mezzo (low B-flat up to E-flat).
Kris Kringle’s adoring grandmother. She raised him to embrace his creativity and whimsy. She died never having told him that his grandfather was Santa’s brother.
