SEEKING

Equity actor/singers for various roles.

PREPARATION

Please Bring a headshot and resume. Actors should wear dance attire and jazz shoes and prepare a song in the style of the show. Singing from the show is welcome. An Accompanist will be provided.

CASTING BREAKDOWN:

FRED GRAHAM/PETRUCHIO: MALE 30- 49
the leading man; writer, producer, director, actor, and superman; worked his way up from the chorus and his ego is as large as his resume is long; must have a physically imposing presence, excellent facility with Shakespeare's text, and be handsome, charismatic, and funny; classic baritone; vocal range: Bb-G.

LILLI VANESSI/KATHARINE: FEMALE 30 -44
the leading lady; returning to the stage after a not-so-successful Hollywood turn; a regal diva with a fierce temper and rapier-like wit, but a vulnerability underneath it all; must have the beauty, poise, and elegance of a 1940s Hollywood movie star; glorious soprano who also has a rich mezzo/belt; vocal range: A-B.

BILL CALHOUN/LUCENTIO: MALE, 20 - 39
Broadway song and dance man; his compulsive gambling is always getting him into trouble with Lois Lane, who he loves but can't trust around other men; must be a first-rate entertainer with irresistible charm; excellent actor and singer; bari-tenor; vocal range: G-F.

LOIS LANE/BIANCA: FEMALE, 20 - 29
A night club singer making her theatrical debut. Sexy and charismatic. An expert at employing her feminine wiles. Must be an incredible dancer with strong comedic abilities. Belter. Excellent actor and singer with a knockout Broadway belt/mix; vocal range: G-F.

FIRST MAN & SECOND MAN: MALE 32-62
Character men; two tough gangsters who look completely out of place in this world of bright lights and poetic beauty, but after six years in the prison library, they have developed a unique way with words and a great appreciation for Shakespeare and the theater; must have a great sense of classic vaudevillian comedy; good movers; vocal range: B-D

HATTIE: FEMALE, 26-39
She is part Lilli's dresser and part psychologist. Unflappable and charismatic. She's seen it all. Sings the anthem Another Op'nin', Another Show. Belt. Must be a stylish and accomplished dancer. Has an ongoing flirtation with Paul; vocal range: A-F. African-American

PAUL: MALE, 26-39
Fred's dresser; cool under pressure; has an ongoing flirtation with Hattie; featured vocalist with jazz style; Excellent and charismatic dancer. vocal range: C-F#. African-American.

HARRY TREVOR/BAPTISTA: MALE, 50+, sings in the ensemble. He is a comic actor who appears mostly in The Shrew as Katherine and Bianca’s father, Baptista. He has mainly Shakespearean dialogue. Good mover and excellent singer in classic Broadway style.

POPS/PRIEST/GENERAL HARRISON HOWELL: MALE 40 - 59. plays 3 roles: Pops…the kindly keeper of the stage door, Priest…the character in Taming of the Shrew who marries Kate and Petruchio, and Harrison Howell, a highly distinguished General of the U.S. Army with strong political ties to the White House; a man of rigid discipline determined to uphold military order and patriarchal family values, he clearly does not fit in with the bohemian nature of Broadway or even Baltimore; must have strong comedic skills; baritone; vocal range: B-F.
