BREAKDOWN
LOLA/SIMON
Male Identified, African American, 30s-40s The Goddess of Sex on Earth. A prizefighter’s physique draped in satin, a drag queen with the power to change the air in any room she enters. A lighthouse of pride, seduction, mystery, charm. Must have a stellar rock/pop/gospel voice and strong dance ability.
CHARLIE PRICE
Male Identified, Any Ethnicity, late 20s- early 30s A tortured soul. Torn between the life set for him by his family’s legacy, a life his peers urge him to lead, and the calling of a path he has yet to discover. The hero of our story hiding under a victim’s mantle. After the death of his father, and meeting Lola, Charlie decides to take his family’s factory in a new direction- the factory will stop making expensive, out of style men’s shoes, and instead make stylish, sturdy, “Kinky Boots” for drag queens to satisfy a niche market and save the factory. Must have a killer rock/pop tenor voice and the ability to convey a deep and highly emotional story arc.
LAUREN
Female Identified, Any Ethnicity, late 20s-early 30s A rough and tumble woman who is more than willing to speak her mind. After a long and tragic history of wrong guys, Lauren falls for Charlie despite her better judgment. Lauren becomes the key to keeping Charlie from falling into a pit of despair. Must have an all-star pop/rock voice, great comedic timing, and ability to command the stage.

Not afraid to say what she wants and will stop at nothing to get it. Rock beltress with striking stage presence.
DON
Male Identified, Any Ethnicity, 30s-50s The factory’s alpha male. Reticent to change and willing to use intimidation tactics and brute force to maintain the status-quo. Learns that a bigger man accepts people for who they are, rather than taking them down for being “other.” Should have a large physical presence. Will wear heels at the end of the show.
TRISH
Female Identified, Any Ethnicity, 40s-50s Matriarch of the factory. Single mother with kids to look after who fears for her family’s wellbeing when the factory falls into disrepair. Resistant to the factory’s new direction but ultimately sees the beauty in its new mission.

YOUNG LOLA/SIMON
Male Identified, African American, to play 10-12 years old Lola as a young boy. A confident child who finds glory and freedom coming from living life 6 inches off the ground. Destined to a life in heels. Should have an unabashed sense of adventure, not afraid to let his fierceness shine through.

THE ANGELS
Male Identified or Transgender, Any Ethnicity, 20s-30s Lola’s enchanting Drag Queen posse and fellow performers at the Blue Angels’ Nightclub. Happy to take Charlie, and the audience, under their broad and bejeweled wings. Not afraid of a clean, fair, and artfully preformed fight. On a mission to spread love across the world, one runway at a time. The Angels should be exquisite dancers, able to perform in heels (3-4 inches preferred), with powerful voices and oodles of stage charm.
