Seeking actors for the following production which will be presented on Triad Stage’s Main Stage (all listed roles are available, i.e. not yet offered and accepted):

Chicken

(Mixed Race-who can pass for white, 30-35)—Chicken has lived in the Mississippi Delta his entire life and his mixed race ancestry has forced him to adapt in a society that won’t accept him. Years of living alone as a social outcast have made human interaction difficult for him. He is crude, harsh, rough, and violent but always a survivor. There is an animalistic quality to his personality and physical being. He has a powerful, masculine body used to hard work and shaped by a lifetime of physical labor. He is manipulative, violent, and highly sexed. He despises his half-brother and will stop at nothing to claim the farm that he feels is rightfully his. He speaks with a rural Mississippi Delta dialect.

Myrtle

(30)—Myrtle is a failed showgirl. However, she has learned to take the shots of a hard life and survive however she can. No matter the circumstances she pulls through, and moves forward. Her loud voice and voluptuous, full-figured body make her stand out in any crowd. Her attempts at being a Hollywood glamour girl fail. Garish and tacky, her clothes are a little too tight, her lipstick a little too red, and her hair a little too blonde. She is good-natured, caring, independent and optimistic. She has loads of personality and that has always gotten her through the rough spots, however, the scars of a tough life are getting harder to hide. The deepest chord in her body is the motherly one and Lot touches that chord. She wants to take care of him and herself and build a home for them to share. She speaks with a rural southern dialect.

Lot

(20)—Lot has tuberculosis and is close to death. He is weak and prone to wheezing and fits of coughing. Lot has returned to his farm with his new wife to prevent his half-brother Chicken from claiming it. Lot is obsessed with his Mother and her memory. He is refined, sarcastic, biting and selfish. He is delicate with almost feminine features and demeanor. He is repulsed by Myrtle’s enthusiasm and physical affection but needs her to secure the future of the farm. He despises his half-brother and will do everything in his diminished power to keep Chicken from claiming the house and the land. He is determined to protect the way of life his Mother taught him and his illness drives him toward madness. He speaks with an upper class southern dialect.
