Please prepare a song of your choice from JOSEPH… or anything in the genre. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music/music book and a stapled headshot and resume.

Please note: In response to member feedback, we are expanding online audition signups to all Equity auditions held in office cities, including those not yet facilitated by Equity monitors. This audition will not be facilitated by an Equity monitor.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

SEEKING:

NARRATOR: 25-32. Character identifies as Female. Open to any ethnicity. A charismatic storyteller with a strong rock singing voice. Low F# (F#3) to High G (G5) (Mezzo/Soprano). Excellent comedy skills and moves well.

JOSEPH: 25-32. Character identifies as Male. Open to any ethnicity. The charismatic eleventh son of Jacob. Obviously his father's favorite, Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. This gets him into trouble with his brothers when he predicts his future will include ruling over the other eleven. However, it saves his life when in Egypt he correctly interprets Pharaoh's dreams. In the end he has risen to a great position of power, but he still forgives his brothers and brings his family to Egypt to partake of the bounty he has accumulated there. Low A (A2) to high A (A4) (Tenor).

JACOB/POTIPHAR: 50-65. Character identifies as Male. Open to any ethnicity. Singer will double as JACOB (JOSEPH’s father) and POTIPHAR, a Noel Coward type character. Low A (A2) to Db (Db4) (Baritone)

THE BROTHERS: 20-35. Characters identify as Male. Open to any ethnicity. Strong singing voices and ability to dance. The show depends on contrasting characters of various shapes, nationalities and sizes. Selected brothers will feature in certain numbers:

“Song of the Kings” – PHAROAH: will need Low Bb (Bb2) to high G# (G#4) (Baritenor). This featured role at the start of Act 2 require a good singer. Elvis Presley impersonator who moves well. “One More Angel in Heaven”: To sing Country and Western style.

“Benjamin Calypso”: To sing Harry Belafonte style.

“Canaan Days”: Strong with comedy to sing Jacques Brel/Maurice Chevalier style. “Go, Go Joseph”: Two brothers to play BUTLER and BAKER (Tenor Baritone). Contrasting character parts; short/fat or tall/thin.

APACHE DANCERS/BROTHER/WIFE:

One Wife and one Brother will feature in the Apache number. Strong dancers with excellent partnering skills (adagio).

MRS POTIPHAR/ WIFE: Character identifies as Female. Open to any ethnicity. Mrs. Potiphar is strong; she knows who she is and what she wants. She is charismatic and body confident. Doubles as one of The Wives.

THE WIVES: 20 to 35. Characters identify as Female. Open to any ethnicity. Strong all-around dancers with good singing voices.
