BREAKDOWN

INTO THE BREECHES

It’s 1942, and there’s a problem at Oberon Playhouse - with the director and leading men all off at war, it looks like the season will be cancelled. That is until a determined and passionate group of ladies rally the troops at home and set out to put on an all-female production of Shakespeare’s Henry V. An increasingly unexpected team is assembled, with a hilariously desperate array of thoughts and ideas, but united in desire. This delightful and moving backstage comedy examines the power of art to bring us together, even in the hardest of times.

Rehearsals begin Monday, June 8, 2020. Rehearsal schedule is Monday through Saturday with Sundays off. Rehearsal times are Mondays through Fridays 7-11PM, and Saturdays 1-5PM and 6:30-9:30PM. Performances are Thursday, July 2, 2020 through Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Stage West, 821 W Vickery. [Note: performances will be Thursday nights at 7:30, Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 and Sunday matinees at 3:00].

THE CHILDREN

In a seaside cottage on the east coast of England, a pair of retired nuclear scientists are startled by the reappearance of a former colleague. As crackers and wine are trotted out, so are remembered stories, old jealousies, and haunting secrets, all leading to the true reason for this sudden visit: a chilling and dangerous plan. The evening will be revelatory and the fallout will be cataclysmic. Brave, humane, and beautifully written, this play confronts the responsibility each generation must face for the way it leaves the world.

Rehearsals begin Monday, February 17, 2020. Rehearsal schedule is Monday through Saturday with Sundays off. Rehearsal times are Mondays through Fridays 7-11PM, and Saturdays 1-5PM and 6:30-9:30PM. Performances are Thursday, March 12, 2020 through Sunday, April 12, 2020 at Stage West, 821 W Vickery.[Note: performances will be Thursday nights at 7:30, Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 and Sunday matinees at 3:00].

Rose - 60s. Voluntarily childless. Takes life as it comes, has a distinct sexual power. Warm, loquacious, enigmatic, and self-assured. British dialect required.

Hazel - 60s. A mother to 4 adult children; married to Robin, and a former colleague of Rose. Super-organized yogi in denial of her body’s dilapidation. A cautious, wholly determined creature of habit and normalcy, exudes domesticity even in moments of crisis. British dialect required.

Robin - 60s. A father to 4 adult children; married to Hazel, and former colleague of Rose. Charming, dramatic, and genial. Weary with an underlying sense of unease, but wily and has the ability to transform from boorish to noble in the blink of an eye. British dialect required.
