SEEKING
Wheelock Family Theatre is seeking Equity Actors, for principal roles in IN THE HEIGHTS. Strong actors, dancers, singers, and rappers encouraged to audition.
Colorful Casting has been a WFT policy for 36 years. Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition..
PREPARATION
Please 32-bars prepare a song in the style of the show. Those actors interested in auditioning for Usnavi, Benny, and Sunny should also prepare a one-minute rap. Material does not need to be appropriate for children.

BREAKDOWN
Usnavi
Male, 20-29, Owner of De La Vega Bodega. A Charismatic son of immigrants, from the Dominican Republic, who dreams of making enough money to go back home. Must rap well. (Baritone).
Nina
Female, 18-25, A freshman at Stanford University and daughter of first generation Puerto Rican parents. Book-smart and can conquer the world, if only she wasn’t so hard on herself. High belter (to F5).
Vanessa
Female, 18-25, Works at the salon, and is vivacious as she is sensitive. Fiercely independent although she may not always want to be. High belter (to E5).
Benny
Male, 18-29, Employee of Rosario’s, African American, and an aspiring business man. He’s funny and full of personality. Must sing and rap well.
Abuela Claudia
Female, 45+, Raised Usnavi, though not his blood grandmother. Is a pillar of the neighborhood and loved by all. (F#3 to C5).
Camila Rosario
Female, 30-45, Nina’s mother, co-owner of Rosario’s Car Service and first generation Puerto Rican. Strong and loyal to her family and it’s traditions but understands the evolving world around her. (G3 to B4).
Kevin Rosario
Male, 30-45, Nina’s father, owner of Rosario’s Car Service and first generation Puerto Rican. A proud over protective father who stands by tradition. (Baritone to E4).
Sonny
Male, 16-25, Usnavi’s cousin, Dominican, and works at the Bodega. He's streetwise, goofy, and easily excitable. Must sing and rap well. (Tenor to Bb4).
Daniela
Female, 18-29, A proud Latina and owner of Daniela’s Salon. She has fought for her version of the American dream. (G3 to C5).
Carla
Female, 25+, Self described Chile-Dominican-Rican from Queens. She works at the salon and is the life of the party.
Piragua Guy
Male, 18+, Latin, self-employed, scraping piraguas from his block of ice, (Tenor, must have a sustainable A4).
Graffiti Pete
Male, 16-30, An artist, and a man of few words. Strong hip-hop dancer, rapper/singer.
Ensemble
Male/Female, 14+. Excellent singers and dancers. Hip hop, Contemporary, and Latin ballroom.
