SYNOPSIS: “Why is this night different from all other nights?” It’s Passover, and the multi generational, multi-cultural Levi-Katz family finds they all have different answers as they struggle with questions of race and religion that have yet to be resolved. Is trauma generational, or genetic? What does it mean to be free? Is vegan brisket even kosher? A celebration of Jewish tradition, this exciting new play follows one family through four millennia of Passover dinners, going from the personal to the eternal, musing on how and if humanity will ever evolve.
Yael Levi-Katz – (She/Her) Jewish, white, 18+ to play 19 and then early 50s, speaks some Hebrew. In her younger age: Liberal, Ivy League student conscious of, but still victim to her privilege. In her older age: a doctor and mother who chooses protecting her children over her faith.
Devorah Levi-Katz – (She/Her) Chinese American, Jewish, 18+ to play 23 and then mid 50s, speaks some Hebrew. In younger age: the good daughter who returns home after college to help take care of the family. Caustic, contained, uncertain. In her older age: matured into a rabbi with the power and certainty of an Old Testament prophet.
