NOTE: All performers should be able to do HIP HOP and move well.
NOTE: We are seeking a fully vaccinated company. Actors must be fully vaccinated prior to first rehearsal.
INSTRUCTIONS
SEE PREPARATION IN BREAKDOWN. Submit electronically with the subject line: “HIP HOP CINDERELLA EPA.” Actors must include your membership number in the subject line to verify they are a member of Actors Equity. Please slate full body with name, height, if you are local, what character you are reading for, and vaccination status. Record audition (horizontal/landscape) framing approximately head to waist. Videos MUST be sent in the form of a LINK TO VIEW. NOT a file to download.

The galaxy has lost its groove, and so has Cinderella! Growing up on Planet Centra, she felt as limitless as the stars, but now her jealous stepmother and selfish stepsisters have her questioning her own potential. Will the Prince’s Galactic Hip Hop Ball help Cinderella trust in the power of her voice? With a sassy robot sidekick, Hip Hop Cinderella teleports the timeless classic across the cosmos and reminds us to reach for the farthest moon.
SEEKING:
CINDERELLA /A.K.A “ELLA C” (Female, Age 18+ to play high schooler, woman of color) A passionate, young woman whose mother passed away many years ago. Her father was a genius quantum computer scientist who remarried Lady Zurka before he, too, passed. Strong Contemporary Pop/Rapper/Hip Hopper.
RUNKA (Any gender, Age 18+ to play high schooler, Any Ethnicity) Constructed from video game computer parts, Runka is a robot made by Cinderella with her father. They are her sassy, human-like, hunk-a-junk companion and protector, and they have a real fondness for narrating Cinderella’s life over their livestreaming Instahologram feed. Runka is out of date and in need of a serious upgrade, but they still have a few tricks up their mechanical sleeve. Contemporary Pop/R&B.
LADY ZURKA (Female, 30s, Any Ethnicity) DOUBLES AS HIP HOP BALL CONTESTANTS WINGNUT, AL LOY, AND BAFFLER. Cinderella’s stepmother. She enjoys being mean and bossy to Cinderella and treats Runka the Robot Rapper especially cruelly. One has to wonder whether all this anger might actually stem from a deeply repressed jealousy of the love her late husband had for his daughter, and his daughter for him. Perhaps there is a path to redemption after all. She is a combination of Ursula (Little Mermaid), Mama Rose, (Gypsy) and Faye Dunaway in “Mommy Dearest…” Versatile, funny, with a big personality. Strong Singer/Rapper.
ZIG (Female, Age 18+ to play high schooler, Any Ethnicity) Lady Zurka’s vain and somewhat vapid daughter, giving off distinct valley girl vibes. Her loftiest dream is to be an Instahologram “influencer.” Contemporary Pop/R&B.
ZAG (Female, Age 18+ to play high schooler, Any Ethnicity) Lady Zurka’s stuck up and selfish daughter, who fancies reading books cover to cover (though not any of the pages in between), and who inexplicably started speaking with a British accent at the age of five when she overheard it on the Great Galactic Bakeoff Show her mom used to watch at night. Contemporary Pop/R&B.
PRINCE (Male, 18+, Any Ethnicity) Heir to the throne of the Galactic Empire, he is an ineffectual but charming prince who is good at little except cultivating Instahologram followers, throwing extravagant parties, and disappointing his mother. He lives in the Hip Hop Palace on the capital planet Zolla. Strong Singer/Rapper/Hip Hopper.
