BREAKDOWN

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Please make sure you are in a well-lit area (with a simple background if possible) where we can clearly hear. For the slate, start with a full-body shot and zoom in or cut to a close-up (bottom of the frame should be at the shoulders and leave a sliver of space above the head for the top frame). The audition can be in a medium wide shot, not too close but not too far. Slate your name, your preferred gender pronouns, and the name of the piece your monologue comes from.

Prepare a 90 second contemporary monologue. Please also include if you'd be interested in being considered for a Swing role in this production.

FYI: NEW IPHONE USERS: If you are taping on the new iPhone/latest IOS update please make sure your settings are compatible prior to taping or else you may have issues uploading and syncing. See here for instructions: https://slack-files.com/T9L5331EG-F01KZL4PMGV-79db9ee514 .

SEEKING:

An understudy is being considered for the following role(s) but has not yet been confirmed.

We recognize that the characters are written on the binary (use he/him pronouns) and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.

BIRD (He/Him, 60's, Black). Has seen some things. Knows to keep his head down. A man of few words with a gruff exterior. Keeps to himself. Quiet, settled temperament; has mostly made peace with the world. Sentimental about the past.

SLIM (He/Him, 40's, Black). The pontificatin' type. Quick to tell you the way of the world. Likes to be the center of attention, but doesn’t like to be seen. Fast-talking, hypermasculine, a palpable effort made to obscure some deep laden disappointment with the way things shook out for him. Good looking, but life has roughed him up some.

BLOOD (He/Him, 20's, Black). Just coming into himself. A dreamer and deep thinker. Clings to the belief there is a world bigger than the one he’s always known. Sensitive and tender-souled, but observant. Can hold his own with the old heads. Carrying something heavy.
