Any actor who has previously auditioned for Gloucester Stage may alternatively submit an updated photo and resume pdf and identify which roles/shows for which you would like to be considered.

Please prepare either two contrasting monologues from a play(s) of your choice or perform two sides from any of the available roles. Sides will be provided ahead of the audition date. Auditions will be five (5) minutes long.

In reference to the character descriptions below – most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with she/her and he/him pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender nonconforming, genderqueer, transgender and nonbinary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We have also listed race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. SYNOPSIS: Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share a home in Bucks County, PA, where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are eccentric maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha.
VANYA - 50s. Any race/ethnicity. Lives with Sonia in Bucks County. Resigned to his life, more or less, at least compared to Sonia. A lost intellectual that is experiencing the world moving too fast around him.
SONIA - early 50s. Any race/ethnicity. Vanya’s adopted sister. Lives with Vanya in Bucks County. Discontent, upset, regretful, and often feels overshadowed by Masha. She yearns for a late-life adventure.
MASHA - 50s. Any race/ethnicity. Vanya and Sonia’s sister. Glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world. She brings along her new boy-toy, Spike, to the family’s house.
SPIKE - late 20s. Any race/ethnicity. An aspiring actor who’s Masha’s new companion. Self-absorbed. Please note, this character has moments of undress in the show and the actor needs to be comfortable performing onstage in a speedo. An intimacy director will be included in the process.
NINA - early 20s. Any race/ethnicity. Lovely, sincere would-be actress. She is visiting her aunt and uncle next door when she stumbles upon meeting Masha and her family. Starstruck and energetic.
CASSANDRA - Any age. Any race/ethnicity. Cleaning lady and soothsayer. Eccentric and captivating. All roles will be understudied. An intimacy consultant will be included in this process.

SYNOPSIS: For her seventy-seventh birthday, Gary knows exactly what she wants: to go surfing. There's only one problem: she's never touched the water. But with the help of a hotrod teenage surf instructor and her two best friends, Gary's ready to conquer the unknown. Taking place on surfboards in the Pacific Ocean, Wipeout is a septuagenarian surf comedy about what it takes to hang ten.
CLAUDIA - 70s. Any race/ethnicity. Always punctual and prepared. Although extremely cautious, will attempt to try something new in the name of friendship.
WYNN - 70s. Any race/ethnicity. Always a little overdressed, outspoken, and veers away from talking about the hard stuff.
MARGARET (“GARY”) - 70s. Any race/ethnicity. Always late with a saga of an excuse, spirited, and always eager for a new adventure.
BLAZE - 19. Any race/ethnicity. Surf instructor. Young and enthusiastic but has an old soul hiding under the surfer persona.
All roles will be understudied.

SYNOPSIS: It’s 1978 and protests are breaking out all across Iran, encroaching on this suburb where a tight-knit circle of girlfriends plans weddings, trades dirty jokes, and tries to hang onto a sense of normalcy. But as the revolution escalates, each woman is forced to join the wave of emigration or face an equally uncertain future at home. With breathtaking humanity and cutting wit, Wish You Were Here chronicles a decade of life during war, as best friends forever become friends long lost, scattered and searching for home.
NAZANIN ( ‘na:zæni:n ) - 20s-30s. Iranian woman. Sort of mean. Deeply protective, loves fiercely.
SALME ( ‘sælmɛ ) - 20s-30s. Iranian woman. The peacemaker. Religious, perceptive but dreamy, sentimental.
ZARI ( ‘zæri ) - 20s-30s. Iranian woman. Happy-go-lucky. Playful, a bit aloof, impulsive.
SHIDEH ( ‘⟆ide ) - 20s-30s. Iranian woman. A little uptight. Fretful in a loving way, very smart, very particular. Doubles as the role of New Friend.
RANA ( ‘ræna: ) - 20s-30s. Iranian woman. The queen of cool. Effortless, candid, confident. All characters speak some words or phrases in Farsi. All roles will be understudied.

SYNOPSIS: A look at the intimacy of male relationships told through the point of view of Machismo culture, The Hombres follows Julián, a gay Latino yoga teacher, as he clashes with the Latino construction workers working outside his studio, particularly the older head of the crew, Héctor, who seeks from Julián a friendship he never expected.
HÉCTOR - 40s. Man, Latino. Works in construction as it allows him to lay low from his citizenship status, and very few people know except his closest friends. He is desperately trying to find a way to let go of his inner demons and anger to be a better husband in his faltering marriage.
JULIÁN - 20s, Man, Latino. Dancer turned yoga instructor. Pushed aside his dreams of being a professional dancer and found stability in teaching yoga. In his heart, connected to his parents’ culture but by way of appearance and dance industry, couldn’t fully assimilate. Having a dance background is a plus.
BETO - 30s, Man, Latino. Friend of Hector and Pedro through work in construction. Doesn’t want to feel left out from the boys. Very invested in his machismo. Has a hard time respecting the businessmen who walk by, and anyone else who doesn’t fit a norm. Still finding himself (but doesn’t know it) and learning to appreciate differences in others.
PEDRO - 40s, Man, Latino. Friend of Hector and Pedro through construction work. A good man in his soul and surprises his friends through his open mind. Works very hard to be a good man for his wife and comfortable with who he is as a person.
MILES - 30s, Man, any race/ethnicity that does not appear Latino. He’s a student of Julián’s, and a young professional. What we do know is his wife’s about to have a baby, and he’s honest enough to come around and be truthful about his role in her life.
All roles will be understudied. Intimacy, fight, and movement choreographers will be included in the process.
