Breakdown

All roles are open. Actors must be able to have great acting, vocal and movement abilities. Ensemble actors will understudy lead roles.

Mama Rose
40’s to early 50s. The ultimate Vaudeville “stage mother” with a drive to make both of her daughters famous! Rose has a sex appeal that can catch the eye of a man. Her Brassy voice should peel the paint and her movement should prove that she is the REAL star in the family! Rose drives the show!

Dainty June
18ish (looks younger) The Daughter. Fading child Vaudeville performer. Think adult Jon Bonnet Ramsey! Her singing and speaking voice should have a bright ping belt quality. She must be an accomplished dancer. Splits, cartwheels, Pointe a must. Light baton twirling helpful.

Louise
The OTHER daughter. Early 20’s. This character must be an accomplished actress. Within moments she must transfer from the less talented daughter into the world famous stripper Gypsy Rose Lee. Must be comfortable in very high heels and have a very lean, fit figure to wear a skimpy 2-piece showgirl costume. Sexy walk is a MUST

Herbie
40s to early 50’s. The handsome and romantic love interest of Rose. He acts as manager of Dainty June’s vaudeville show. Baritone range with light movement. This is a pivotal acting role!

Tulsa
20’s The Perfect Tenor-Tap-ballet-chorus boy. Tulsa must have the technique and stage presence to command the stage alone. He aspires to have is own vaudeville show.

Mazzeppa
BRASH and Ballsy Trumpet playing Burlesque Stripper. She is VERY intimidating and frankly slightly scary. Good mover with big belt. Trumpet playing helpful. Character actress!

Tessie Tura
30’s to 50’s Burlesque Stripper. Strong actor/Singer/Dancer. The classic lean showgirl body and poise. Ballet in high heels a must.

Electra
30s to 50s Stunning show girl figure and not ashamed to show it! Electra has to be smart enough to dance and bevel while controlling a light show in her costume. Previous experience is not necessary. Singing and dancing a must. The track may also double in the role of “Miss Cratchit”. She is the SECRETARY to a producer/director.
