BREAKDOWN

In reference to the character descriptions below—most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But how ever limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. Let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide (Language developed by Kevin Kantor and Emily Tarquin from the Actors Theatre of Louisville).

Synopsis: India, 1648. Two hapless Imperial Guards watch from their post as the sun rises for the first time over the newly completed Taj Mahal. The morning light brings with it an unthinkable task that will shake the foundations of everything they thought to be true. In this disarmingly funny and deeply moving story, two friends behold the most sublime of wonders and discover the perils of bearing witness to perfection.

Seeking:

Humayun - Male. South Asian/Indian. Late 20’s-late 30’s. An Imperial Guard. His father is the Chief Officer of the Guards. Lifelong friend of Babur. Has pride in his position and tries to stay within the lines while still being swayed by his friend’s perspectives.

Babur - Male. South Asian/Indian. Late 20’s-late 30’s. An Imperial Guard. Lifelong friend of Humayun. A dreamer who challenges the rules. Follows his impulses. Never means harm. Desperately wants more.
