Breakdown
A group of ten Indentured Servants - comprised of eight men and two women - do work about the stage as needed, including the portrayal of the various characters listed below. In addition, there is a small band of musicians to provide accompaniment - unless the actors, too, can play music. All characters are Puritan unless otherwise noted. Ages might be varied from what is listed. William Darby – an artistic personality with a past, no religion but passes as Puritan, age 25-30. Cornelius Watkins – an only recently-achieved middle class landowner now already on hard times, age 25-35. Phillip Howard – a former indentured servant only recently turned tenant hand, age 20-25. Edward Martin – a perpetual indentured servant and Quaker, age 49. Thomas Fowkes – a tavern keeper and Quaker, age 35. John Fawsett - Sheriff of Accomack County, age 38. Daniel Prichard – a carpenter, two years out of his indentured servitude, age 27. Captain Edmond Pore - Captain in His Majesty’s service, Judge in the Accomack County Court, age 42. Constance Pore - wife of Captain Edmond Pore, age 37. Tryal Pore – daughter of Captain Edmond Pore, and an independent spirit, age 17. Major Howell Cross – local representative at Jamestown of His Majesty’s Council Appointed for Foreign Plantations, age 45. Mary Taylor, an unfortunate young woman. George Derby, a young rascal. A Bristol Judge. A troupe of players. A Harbor Clerk.
