DANCING AT LUGHNASA

The story of five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936. Their spare existence is interrupted by brief, colorful bursts of music from the radio, their only link to the romance and hope of the world at large. Brian Friel’s nostalgic Tony Award-winning tale of five unmarried sisters and a household framed by their strength and persistence, casts a ravishing spell of ritual, remembrance and the Chekhovian riddle of whether “memory” is something one has, or something one’s lost.
Agnes (Female– 30-40): Third of the 5 sisters, she is a knitter and special protector of Rose. She is quiet and contemplative.
Rose (Female– 25-35): Fourth of the 5 sisters, she too is a knitter. She is simple - suffering from a developmental disability which causes her to act in a childlike way.
Chris (Female – 25-30): Youngest of the 5 sisters, she is the mother of Michael. She is care free, wants to have fun, and is still in love with Michael’s father Gerry.
The following roles are CAST with Resident Acting Company. Performers will be considered as possible replacements should any become necessary:
Kate ROLE CAST. (Female– 35-50): The oldest of the 5 sisters, she is a school teacher and the only wage earner. The responsibility of the family weighs heavily on her.
Maggie ROLE CAST. (Female– 30-45): The second of the five sisters, she is the housekeeper. She is cheerful and carefree and hasn’t let bad luck bring her down.
Jack ROLE CAST. (Male – 50-60): Older brother of the 5 sisters, he is a missionary priest who has just returned from Africa, confused and ill. He is struggling to adjust to life at home after years away.
Michael ROLE CAST. (Male – 30-40): Young man who is the narrator of the story, he is telling it some years after the events. He also speaks lines as himself when he was seven.
Gerry ROLE CAST. (Male – 25-35): Michaels father, he is a Welsh traveling salesman who rarely visits and always arrives unannounced.

In small-town working-class America, where generation upon generation of fun-loving schoolchildren grow up to be saloon-loving steelworkers on a manufacturing line, it takes but one nick in the core of a community for its breaking point to be seismically tested. Lynn Nottage’s unflinching and intensely researched slice-of-life drama captures the pressure cooker of trying times in Reading, Pennsylvania, where a lethal combination of layoffs, lockouts and picket lines sends their tight-knit Rust Belt way of life into crisis.
Stan (Male – 50-60): Vietnam veteran, he is the longtime bartender who walks with a pronounced limp after having been injured working at the plant.
Brucie (Male – African-American – 45-55): Chris’s father, he is trying to stay clean. He has been locked out from working at the plant.
Evan (Male – African-American – 35-45): Parole officer who is working with Chris and Jason.
Oscar (Male – Hispanic – 20-30): Colombian-American bus boy at the bar, he is quiet and alert. He is trying to secure work at the plant.
Chris (Male – African-American – 20-30): Son of Cynthia, he is lifelong friends with Jason. He has plans to get out of the plant and go to college.
Jason (Male – 20-30): Son of Tracey, he is lifelong friends with Chris. He doesn’t have many plans beyond working at the plant and retiring from the plant at 50.

Tracey ROLE CAST. (Female – 40-55): Mother of Jason and friend and co-worker of Cynthia and Jessie for 20 years, she is Angry that Cynthia secures the warehouse supervisor job at the plant.
Cynthia ROLE CAST. (Female – African-American – 40-55): Mother of Chris and friend and co-worker of Tracey and Jessie for 20 years, she gets a promotion to warehouse supervisor at the plant.
Jessie ROLE CAST. (Female – 35-45): Friend and co-worker of Tracey and Cynthia, she is typically drunk at the bar. She once had dreams of travelling the world.

This masterpiece is probably the most famous of all comedies. It revolves wittily around the most ingenious case of manufactured mistaken identity ever put into a play.
Gwendolen (Female – 20-35): Algernon’s cousin and Lady Bracknell’s daughter, she is in love with Jack, whom she knows as Ernest. She is sophisticated, intellectual, cosmopolitan, and utterly pretentious. She is fixated on the name Ernest and says she will not marry a man without that name.
The following roles ARE CAST with Resident Acting Company. Performers will be considered as possible replacements should any become necessary:
Lady Bracknell ROLE CAST. (Actor – 40-65): Algernon’s snobbish, mercenary, and domineering aunt and Gwendolen’s mother, she married well, and her primary goal in life is to see her daughter do the same.
Miss Prism ROLE CAST. (Female – 40-65): Cecily’s governess, she’s somewhat puritanical, but her softer side leans toward Dr. Chasuble. She once wrote an important novel.
Cecily ROLE CAST. (Female – 18-32): Jack’s ward who, like Gwendolen, is fascinated with the name Ernest. She has invented an elaborate courtship and relationship with Jack’s brother Ernest in her imagination.
Doctor Chasuble ROLE CAST. (Male – 50-70): The pleasant rector on Jack’s country estate, he has a crush on Miss Prism.
Lane and Merriman ROLE CAST. (Male – 40-70): Lane is Algernon’s butler, and Merriman is a servant at Jack’s country estate. Both roles to be played by the same actor.
Jack Worthing ROLE CAST. (Male – 25-35): A seemingly responsible and respectable young man, he leads a double life. In Hertfordshire, where he has a country estate, he is known as Jack. In London, he is known as Ernest. He is the guardian of Cecily, and he is in love with Algernon’s cousin, Gwendolen.
Algernon ROLE CAST. (Male – 25-35): A charming, idle bachelor, nephew of Lady Bracknell, cousin of Gwendolen Fairfax, and best friend of Jack Worthing.. He has invented a fictional friend, “Bunbury,” an invalid whose frequent sudden relapses allow Algernon to wriggle out of unpleasant or dull social obligations. He falls in love with Cecily.

When the repenting culprit from a fatal drunk driving accident seeks forgiveness from the Amish family whose two sons’ lives he claimed, faith guides them without question to welcome him into their community and their home. But as inconvenient truths from the family’s past are discovered, is their outpouring of empathy as limitless as it seems? The contradictions of a peaceful community’s capacity to heal and forgive are explored in this quietly captivating drama that invites audiences into the driver’s seat at the crossroads of redemption and regret.
Miri (Female – 20-30): Smart, plain-spoken, and independent, she left the Amish at the age of twenty and coped by building a hard shell around her heart. She is more like her mother than her father.
Ruth (Female – 15-22): Miri’s youngest sibling, and a version of Miri as she might have been as a ‘good Amish girl’, Ruth is sweet and good, but not simple. She is unintentionally funny in spite of herself. More like her father than her mother.
Eric (Male – 35-45): Unemployed, confused, and adrift in the world, he is an addict, and there is a dark core at the center of him that he’s fighting very hard to keep buried. Deeply self-centered and self-loathing, he has a hard time finishing a sentence. He comes to Jacob seeking forgiveness.
Abram (Male – 20-30): Strapping, polite, charming, and entitled, he is Miri’s childhood sweetheart and also the reason she left the Amish. He is a very charming brute; the audience should like him.

Esther ROLE CAST. (Female – 45-55): Miri and Ruth’s mother and Jacob’s wife, she is a hard worker who suffers no fools and speaks her mind. She lives with a hereditary current of anger just below the surface. On the outside, she seems simple and perhaps submissive, but she has a core of steel.
Jacob ROLE CAST. (Male – 45-55): Miri and Ruth’s father and Esther’s husband, he is an open and earnest man. He believes the best way to make peace with the deaths of his sons is to actively work on forgiveness. The tragedy has made him desperate to reconcile with his
oldest daughter.

Like all culinary trends, relationships are bound to evolve over time—but can the recipe of friendship retain its spice when the key ingredients begin to change? A fabulous dinner at the home of food writers Gabe and Karen gets chased with dessert more sour than sweet when Beth reveals that Tom wants out of their 12-year marriage. Things quickly begin to boil when both couples find themselves stewing over questions of identity, individuality and companionship.
Gabe (Male – 35-45): Married to Beth and best friends with Tom, he lives an orderly structured life. He Is the peacemaker.
Tom (Male – 35-45): Estranged husband of Beth and best friends with Gabe, he is a lawyer. He has been labeled a ladies’ man.
